Sorry I'll ask again because it seems like the map has been updated with everyone elses settlements but not mine. At y30 x11 Tenebrous Mountain Bay is gone. The owner disbanded it around June 26th. Around July 6th I've deeded the area and it is now known as Shadowlands.

Also, at y31 x9 there is a small deed called Hidden Ridge, and I believe its right in the middle of that tile. It isn't my deed but I would think the map should reflect it so someone doesn't come looking for land and get disappointed.

I don't mean to be rude or pushy, it just appears that my post was overlooked, and my friend and I are new and quite proud of our land and are very excited to see it appear on the map. It is an amazing project and I truly appreciate it.

Actually, there are people who quite enjoy their hermit-ness and don't want their deeds located on the map (looking at you, Elwood).

I'm sure DM will get you up there soon.

I can understand, and I wont start a fight about it, but I know me personally, I spent a lot of time traveling through Exodus and Celebration heading to spot after spot that looked undeeded just to come across a deed that wasn't listed and to have my hopes crushed. Being a hermit and not listing actually brought me to their area to look for land, had it been listed I would have never gone, thus leaving them in their hermit-ness. Just the point of view from a couple new players trying to find their way in this amazing game.

Sorry, must've overlooked the post. To be fair to other people doing maps though, it isn't always possible to know every deed that has been placed, especially when most of the playerbase don't post on forums. Will have you on today though.

Are you think about to give names to the continents, mountains, large areas too?

I mean not all just the larges ones.

From Darkmalice:

"I will not be naming every island, only the largest and then only if all the deeds there agree on a name.

I will not be naming mountains."

Best guess as to where we are. The wall is probably wrong but the placement of the guard towers and deeds is pretty much right on. 406361_445853978781656_2078182269_n.jpg

Consider this the Beta-stage map (28Mb file);

http://noizeviolatio...Celebration.png

A few details;

Deeds are now divided into several classes with their own icons: homestead, village, town and city.

Dedicated markets have their own icons.

Dedicated sermon locations have their own icon.

Festival sites have their onw icon.

Deeds can be colour-coded by alliance if requested, depending on locality.

Other icons available for larger deeds that are walled.

Castle icon for deeds named as castles.

Icon for 'mission obelisks' which have been built.

Icon to represent land crossings for canals.

Rock/mountain areas represented by terrain type, larger peaks by mountain symbols.

Icon set for 'hilly' areas.

Icon set for dense forests, including fruit tree forests.

Terrain set using the actual wurm textures (except for water).

Terrain can be edited as the server develops.

Deeds can choose a 'specialised trade' and bear the icon for it alongside their settlement. Limited to certain skills.

As before, icons for public traders, mailboxes and individual merchants (i.e. not markets).

Highways and major tunnels to be represented.

Clay & tar resources represented by icons rather than terrain areas.

New smaller-to-scale grid for more accurate location. Each grid square is equal to 32x32 in-game tiles.

Hosting the high-res map as a googlemap is being looked at with Garis' help.

Alternatively there will be a low res and high res versions available.

Thoughts and opinions at this stage are welcome: bear in mind you will still have the old map dump if you're not a fan of cartoony fun. Personally I don't believe you need to know every nook and cranny while out exploring, if you do it isn't really exploring.

The deeds are divided into four main classes depending on size. Upkeep does not include guards.

Homestead - 11x11 to 20x20 = 121 to 440 deed tiles

Village - 21x21 to 34x34 = 441 to 1224 deed tiles OR between 1s and 2.449s upkeep

Town - 35x35 to 50x50 = 1225 to 2600 deed tiles OR between 2.45 and 5.2s upkeep

City - Above 51x51 = 2601 deed tiles OR above 5.2s upkeep.

Deed submissions will therefore ask to include your deed size, upkeep, guards (if any) and alliance members.

EDIT

Two other things to note;

1) Towers may not be added where their position overlaps with an existing deed. Tower positions should be given in relation to the deed token, not 'we have a tower now'.

2) If you wish to be shown as a market, festival or sermon site, this replaces the homestead/village/town/city icon.

You've really outdone yourself with this one DM, this map has a very nice RPG feel to it. It really makes me want to explore the world.

I love how everything gets its own little icon, and how you can visually see how large, and industrious a settlement is (with the addition of the crafting icons)

Edit: Maybe an icon for a collosus

Love it, will it be hard to manage the graphic sizes as it gets more population?

Deed icons are sized so that they cover the right amount of space. Additional trade icons may get messy, but I'll be limiting those to one per deed (meaning a max of 4 icons per deed with mail/trader/merchant, one each corner) so hopefully it'll be alright.

If mountains or trees get in the way they can simply be removed.

Great map, but I'm not sure I like to see settlement sizes tied to deed area, i.e. how much you are willing/can afford to pay for this game. Based on your criteria, my place would get downgraded to homestead because it's currently 23x19, even though there are currently five villagers -- not including alts -- living on the premises, with a sixth living off-deed. Meanwhile, Serenity Flats is declared a city only because whoever owns it deeded nearly all the space between Median to Hidden Cove. Someone would live alone with a shack in the middle of a 100x100 deed and that would make his place a city?

I know that you need some classification method, and the one that you've chosen is perhaps the easiest to apply consistently. Still, I'd much prefer a more arbitrary method, where you look at land development, the number of villagers, signs of activity. Owning a bunch of trees proves nothing, other than that you have RL money to spend.

It's an indication of the size of the area the settlement is taking up, an important consideration for other would-be settlers. I don't think anyone should feel negative about being marked as a smaller deed, it is what it is.

I also don't see why there would be anything to prove to anyone? Do larger deeds make you feel inadequate? :D

Measuring by villager count or 'how developed' an area is, is just far too impractical.
