Banners, Signs And Totems

Recommended Posts

Not while ago on our village chat we disscused about another addon

Totems - made of logs planks and shafts. And in elaborate version with cloth. Totem should give bonus to the village.

Let say Totem of Caprentry should give bonus to carp skill for all villagers let say 6 tiles around. Bonus should be equal to totem QL / 2 so best totem would give 50% bonus to skill gain. Moreover totem should increase chace for rare items. (ql/3)

It cant be finished inside buildings.

Then we could make tournaments where totems would be a prize.

On addition people would have to travel to a village with better totem to achive another level. Let say 0-20 (they could do on their own) but when 29-30 they shoudl go to a village with apropriate totem and meditate by the totem. This would encourage traveling, trade and overall role playing, making Wurm more vibrant place. Only one totem should maitained by village. Of course we could use own meditation rugs.. or use "paid ones" in the village.

Banners and sings.

Same as totems, but :

Banners can be placed inside buildings and skill gain bonus should calculated ql/4 (and rare items ql/6)

Signs - one person boos (same as banner in manner of calculation).

-1 to all extra skillgain ideas, SB is ok because it allows people who can't be on 18h per day to still almost keep up, but I'm not even OK with the 25% bonus you get from lv12PoK, even though that takes ~1yr. Additional skillgain is NOT what wurm is about, if you want easymode skilling go to Epic

Wait, do you have to meditate by a totem before you can raise level in your skills or what?

Becuase people only get one tick and stop grinding? Of course not, some people can grind one skill for a few hours straight...

100ql? k, carpentry isn't a hard skill to grind. An 80ql mallet doesn't take me long to make with over 80 carp, say I take 20 mins and make an 80ql totem. That's still 40% more skill. Sure, maybe some noob only has 50 carp, so they make a 60ql totem, and they still get 30% more skill. That's still a huge change. It basically becomes a new requirement to 'succeed' in wurm, and more of that is NOT what this game needs.

But apart from skill gain... it would be intresting idea to move around to find "better master" to learn more. like in RL. You can bang with hammer, but when u learn from a more skilled person it would be less time consuming. According to real life, you cant do anything just by trial nad error. You need a master or a skill book... (towards use of papyrus, since now it has no use after all, there are village forums, village chats and so on, so sending info via papyrus notes its cute addon but pretty useless [apart from greater gamelplay])

Yeah... sure... peps who grind all the time will do it wit wor without... but faster skill gain would make the game more lively... as for now everybody are sitting in their villages and do nothing than grind... If you belive that grinding is a main goal, im very sorry for you. Moreover You had to go to a certaain village to meditate to get to another level. it would encourage people to move around and trade, and most of all enjoy the game instead of silently grinding
