doubtful any of you even play this but i just recently got into it so i'd be interested if others did play it.

i've only played it online since about everyone i know is repulsed by the idea of it (typical as to where i live)

But im moving soon and wouldnt mind actual games irl.

I've had.. interesting things happen my first game (of which is still progressing)

but everyone is new, including the dm.

meaning it took us about 3 hours to take down a single troll with a party of 5.

But yeah, so far my story isnt too exciting (other then me, being the only female char got blinded by some phsychomaniac hallucinegen-induced library keeper, ...Forced on by an orc, and then later on capturing an orc and then almost giving my life for him just to interrogate him, and revenge.)

story's just now starting but yeah i'm definitely in love with this game.

anyone else out there play(ed) it?

not really sure, i didn't read over the paper much

just knew somewhere withing a few select countries, one being england.

some foreign-education thing.

anyways it's not really "linking"

the only thing i can link you to is a public dice-rolling thing to make sure others don't cheat

otherwise everything can be done anywhere with text (or rp in a game for visual effects)

hell it could be done on this thread

mainly from a friend who's learning how to DM

but there's a handbook online for 3.5e (the version we're playing on)

http://www.d20srd.org/index.htm

there was this newbie guide i found, but it's not too accurate since every game is different, it all depends on how the DM sets up stuff

but generally stats and stuff are the same

basically everyone rolls dice to get stats (different again, but usually its a 1d20 die (1 dice with 20 sides), or 4d5 (4 die with 5 sides), or to make it easier, 5L5 (5 die rolled with 5 sides, and the Lowest die is taken out and not accounted for))

meaning the maximum score for any status is 20.

there's 6 basic stats

strength

constitution

dexterity

wisdom

intelligence

charisma

and they all reflect your base chances for stuff, it might seem complex from here on when it breaks down, but its not really

in a gist it means: charismatic people can use charismatic skills more, and for a charismatic-type class it's generally easier the higher stats you have.

people mix it up so it's all different

then it falls down to skills, which are basically the "specific" actions you do (i.e, climbing a tree uses a Climbing check (rolling a 1d20 and adding your bonusses depending on your stats and stuff)), you can spend sp (skillpoints) in those to make yourself generally better at it, along with the bonus from your normal stats.

skillpoints are different for each class (i.e a sorcerer gets lets SP, then say, a rogue, because sorcerers focus more on spells then skills, and rogues dont use spells, but have a massive array of skills)

All classes can learn any skill, but it costs 2x the sp for a skill not meant for your class (i.e a wizard training, say, climb)

and then it gets a bit more complex depending on the scenario (i.e climbing a smooth tall cylinder tube is obviously alot harder then climbing a rock mountain, so it would gain DC (Difficulty class, aka how hard it is to preform a action), of which in turn you need a higher rank in a skill to preform it, or have a better chance of doing it.

not many actions are impossible if you dont have the skill for it, but youre going to have to be pretty damn lucky to do it if you dont have the skill for it.

now aside all this math (of which isnt really complex since you'll have most of this on a notepad, it's just YOUR job to factor in bonusses when you roll a die, otherwise you just handicap yourself.)

it's pretty fun because every game is different, and the most random things happen.

sounds like fun once you get into it! im up for it! how many people can play at 1 time?

at minimum i'd say 3 players and 1 dm (so 4)

but 4 players and 1dm is more fun imo

any more and it starts to get rather slow

There are a lot of different play styles for this game. Any given gaming group can be very different from another. There are countless similar table top games of varying complexity but DnD is a good starter game.

It is more about the story and character personality than the game system anyway.

so uh

funny thing today

basically we had an orc that died

so i decided to keep some remnants (his head, heart and intestines)

i cleaned out his intestines and left the insides into a flask.

we went into the bar for some food, but beforehand i left the flask outside because it reeked

so after we ate and stuff, i went to collect it

it was gone, stolen

we followed the slimy tracks and it led under a dead mimic, where many maggots were feasting on it

so im telling my other friend to get it because i dont want to risk a disease

instead my genius druid friend decides to

TALK to the maggots

they were chanting "YUM YUM EAT THE TUM" consistently.

so my druid friend persuaded them to give us the flask and we got it back

pretty funny, i felt bad since they didnt have any source of food and just gave them the insides.
