Posted November 28, 2008 before you read this thread, be aware that you get this game for free if you do some promotion that takes a junk email accounts and 5 minutes. also there is some gore here (wurm online forums :) stolen from facepunch, because that is where the best threads come from http://www.datarealms.com/ Build 22 Features: -TONS of new official weapons and actors implemented thanks to new content producers Capnbubs and Numgun - most of the audio effects are still work in progress. -Lots of new exclusive and amazing in-game music thanks to DannyB of dB Soundworks. More on this later! -Completely new, completely awesome full-blown mission with almost completely hand-painted environment! -Vastly more interesting and reactive AI actor behavior -AI GO-TO mode waypoints can lock onto moving actors - make squads move in groups! -2X Windowed mode for easier to read fonts and screen action -Buy menu lists are now grouped into data modules/factions -New installer will ask if you want to remove EVERYTHING or leave your installed mods and settings At first glance, Cortex Command appears to be a simplistic side-scrolling shooter, with quite basic visuals and a small, not-quite awake community of modders. However, spend some quality time with the free demo version and you discover an innovative game idea with a nifty physics engine to match. The basic premise goes thus: Have I got your attention yet? Get this: For those of you not familiar with the early versions of Worms, pixel physics technology brings back fully destructible environments - and characters - to lend this game a deep, challenging gameplay experience. Dig a tunnel to your foe's bunker, and hear his shouts of frustration as you collapse the floor below his troops, sending them falling to their deaths. Watch in hopeless despair as your last man is pulverised by a flying piece of debris from the dropship he just shot down. Yelp in terror as the rocket you've been firing at turns and cartwheels through the air towards you, mashing you into a pile of gore and metal. Shed a tear as your beautiful, custom-built bunker succumbs to a team of diggers, who eventually reach your deep-underground vault and vaporise your unguarded brain. Cortex Command features up to four-player split-screen, so you can wallow in the hilarity of multiplayer crab-wrestling (you'll see), or team up to hold your own against an onslaught of AI opponents. The flexible controls allow you to use gamepads, joysticks, keyboard+mouse, or simply the classic four-men-and-a-keyboard setup. This means that, no matter what your preferences, you and your friends can all jump into the grinder together. Please Note: This game is a work in progress. There is currently only one campaign mission, which is effectively a tutorial. There is, however, a deep skirmish mode; where you and a friend can build bunkers and battle it out to turn each other's brains to mush, hold off against wave after wave of opponents, or simply protect your brain from the computer single-handed. :siren: If you buy the game now, you benefit from a reduced price. The closer it comes to completion, the higher the price will be, so buy early! :siren: The flexibility of the engine means that modding is easy and yields entertaining results. Unfortunately, with a relatively small community, there is only so much modification that can be done. However, they have put out a very impressive array of mods which can be found on their forums: http://www.datarealms.com/forum/index.php You violent dudes can rest easy knowing that there is a satisfying amount of blood and guts in this game, which is tied in brilliantly with the physics, allowing you to barricade yourself in the brain vault with the bodies of your dead comrades. Some interesting inside info on the game's development, from the Cortex Command Wiki: For more information, see the wiki: http://www.datarealms.com/wiki/index.php/Cortex_Command On one last note, many of you will be happy to hear that a recent update implemented Lua into the engine. http://www.datarealms.com/devlog/cortex-command/in-game-lua-console/ Also, there is a good chance that netplay will never be included, due to the high strain of pixel physics on a connection. Or something. You never know, there might be a breakthrough. Just don't hold your breath. Cortex Command Mod Manager: This is an absolute must. http://www.donationcoder.com/Forums/bb/index.php?PHPSESSID=1drbaj003s1j5fntlpf0rc0d92&action=dlattach;topic=9713.0;attach=27220 The next build will be mac compatible.
