Posted November 27, 2008 Hi there. i have been experiencing a rather annoying bug... in a cave, whenever the tunnel is wide (i think this is twhen it happens) my light goes off. i mean it's still lit and all but i cannot see anything. the light going off is actually random to me and it doesn't come back until i leave the cave, enter again... anyone else experiencing it? my lantern is about 38ql and full of tar and no problem with it anywhere else. i actually got a new lantern done and the same problem. Posted November 27, 2008 Yup, same problem here. re-logging doen't fix it. Just get to know your cave, and keep walking around until it comes back on.
Posted November 27, 2008 Yeah, this is so old I'd expect it to be fixed by now. When I walk on certain spots in certain mines, my lit lantern, which remains (lit), does not provide any light.
Posted November 28, 2008 Same problem here - fairly recent since I wasnt geting it a month ago. I did notice that the ql of the lantern may be relevant - though my characters are also of different gender, so their light may be at a different height or something. Posted December 12, 2008 It's probably due to the standard limitation of 8 light sources in OpenGL, there are some exceptions that can handle like 16 and such though, but they're usually expensive developer hardware, although I've seen the random odd integrated card with it too (in someones log file on this forum). Posted December 12, 2008 Ok, I get that but explain why it happens in areas where there are no other light sources at all?
Posted December 12, 2008 Hmm, that's harder to explain. Unless there are light sources you aren't seeing, like lava spiders/fiends hidden away close-by, but you should notice those kinda fast >_> Can't say I have experienced the bug myself, except when there are more (known) light sources around, so it's hard for me to guess the cause :/
Posted December 12, 2008 There is a light limit but this isn't the actual problem. The client chooses which lights to display but for some reason it doesn't always choose your personal light as one of those. This could be for a number of reasons and I am looking into resolving this. Thanks for the information - if you find out more please do keep posting here. Posted December 12, 2008 It's probably due to the standard limitation of 8 light sources in OpenGL No, it's not. It happens inside mines, but when you go to the exact same spot above the mine your lantern still works. Huck, which server is that on? JK-H, but I'd assume it goes for all three servers. Posted December 21, 2008 This is not just in caves. It happens in my house also. I have 2 lamp post and my lantern and when I go to certain areas in the house, all lights go out. They don't come back tell I go to another area. They seem to go off near the door and they go back on over by the oven.
