Posted November 24, 2008 Hi, im not looking for any flaming so please save it... Dev group, i was wondering if you have ever wondered of selling your game idea to a known games company. I reckon it might be a good idea for the following reasons: PROS: 1. They could have more experience than you and could help boost profits that you can make from this marvelous game idea! 2. Help with the development of the game and probably help jump from the Java engine currently being used (when i last checked anyway) to a better engine that can support better graphics and other amazing features. 3. Take off a lot of workload from you guys. CONS: 1. They will probably charge some outrageous monthly fee, if they are a known company ( i dont know how that works because i have always hated monthly fees so i don't know what is fair and what isnt). I reckon the PROS weigh out the CONS and i have been with this game since the completely free beta stages until it turned pay to play (like i said, i hate monthly fees, i prefer a buy to play and then free all the way through) and i have always imagined how this game would look and feel in the hands of a professional games company, not because you guys aren't talented enough to create a good game, this game is actually the perfect example of how a group of people who do not have the status of lets say EA games can create a game beyond the level of one of those big companies, i always introduce this game to every single one of my friends and tell them how this was created by ordinary people that EA, Microsoft, Blizzard, THQ and many more lack in their teams, i would lovoe to see this game in a professional games company because they have the money and with it the technology to make this game take that big leap and become a best seller. Im not suggesting you sell the game to a company and leave it at that because that wouldn't make any difference, i suggest you sell it to them but if you can also supervise the work, if that fails you can always demand royalties... Well, it would be nice to hear someones opinion on this matter, does anyone else agree but have something to add? or you think this isnt a good idea? Dev team what do you think? have you thought of this before? I remind people this isnt a flaming session, this is actually a chance for greatness, if a number of people agree with what i suggested maybe the dev team may realize that it isnt a bad idea, well... Lets begin!
Posted November 24, 2008 You fail. There is a reason Wurm is great, and that is that it's an indie game. Do you think a large conglomerate would want to own a game such as Wurm? No, because it appeals to such a small base of people. And if a big game company were to pick it up, it woul dbe destroyed. They'd have to make classes and levels and shinies for you to win and trade for more shinies, otherwise the 11 year olds wouldn't play, and as we all know, most other MMOs are populated almost exclusively by children/young teens. Posted November 24, 2008 NO This is what makes the community great, and people volunteer to help out. Also, I like keeping this on an engine I know the ins and outs about. They would make classes, and also be leaning more towards underaged idiots. ^ lol 1 post ^
Posted November 24, 2008 I'm sure in the right hands wurm could be a bit more... "popular????" But... those hands do not exist in today's mainstream companies. This game will be better suited to remain Indie. Though I always have dreams of it moving somewhere at a faster speed then it is. But if slow is the trade off from it becoming a Korean MMO knockoff, than I will wait patiently for it to grow.
Posted November 24, 2008 I think wurm should be moved out of Java due to, if they did the game would run better on computer who can run crysis. But this game hardly on maximum.
Posted November 25, 2008 I would rather have permanent bugs and slow development than 10 zillion newbies running amok in my back yard. Seriously, dont sell Wurm.
Posted November 25, 2008 Im sure Rolf has considered it (especially when players start bitching); however, I am glad he has not. Most indie games when purchased tend to sit on a backburner, so as not to distract from the company's main moneymakers.
Posted November 25, 2008 The day Wurm gets sold to a big company is the day i stop playing.

Posted November 26, 2008 selling this game to a large company has one problem noone here could handle: they'll change the game to make it mainstream, and some of you may have heard about spore, they'll remove elements until the game runs on hype alone. it'll be a total failure. this idea you have isn't a bad one though. Proposing this game to a smaller company, with investors who are used to non mainstream material, may help the game's development. but i guess rolf would have to weigh all sides to that. It's a useless topic I doubt anyone's gonna agree with =) I agree with this topic. That guy has some valid points. Concepts can always be sold under agreements and under conditions. So it doesn't necessary have to turn into a korean like money pooper when sold to a good company. But that is most likely not to happen. I'm pretty sure Rolf considers this as his life work. One doesn't throw such things away easily. Also... fanatic players :.
Posted November 26, 2008 how we get item shop or something for richest... Ya like Resurrection stones, Deed guards, Farwalker twigs, Farwalker stones, Farwalker amulets, Drake hide, Dragon scale, That'd suck badly.. Oh wait...
Posted November 26, 2008 Basic economics... the smaller supply of a desired item, the higher the demand (and thus price) for said item. I hope to never see dragonscale so common its less than a handful of silver. Just be happy the traders have an "infinite" supply of some items.
Posted November 26, 2008 Sell the game!? Why did you put this in Suggestions!? Never! >:{ I would think that selling the game would only come of bad - I doubt anyone who bought it would put the effort into improving and maintaining the game that Rolf and the GMs do. Posted November 28, 2008 Wow so many views, i appreciate all of them and ye i reckon you lots do have a point when saying it should remain indie. With this discussion i found out why its so good to have a game remain indie. I just wanted to see the opinions of the people who make wurm so great and the people who don't (the idiots who love to flame just because someone decides to share an idea), just to make it clear i did post this thread to discover what people thought about moving this game to a corporate level but those who disagree to the idea in a stupid manner are just the same as the corporate mmo playing noobs who prefer a grind to a masterpiece such as this one. Because of this post, if the Dev team had the idea of selling the game in their heads, they will now know the opinion of their community and never ever think this idea again, this is how a community should be and it's an integral part of any great game, such as this one. Thanks guys, i now know that corporate isn't always the way forward! ;D

Posted December 2, 2008 This game would just not work if it was "popular". What would happen to all the precious trees if we had thousands of players? I shudder to think.
