Unable to Launch (Another thread like this..)

Recommended Posts

Just another thread like this.

Situation:

I formatted hard-drive and reinstalled XP. I put on the latest video card drivers for my ATI Radeon 9550. I know the card is fine because I used to play wurm on the SAME CARD before the reinstall and now I can't. I can also play stuff like left 4 dead (half life 2) with good FPS. Now wurm doesn't work.

Problem:

On Jogl & Awt (or w/e it was): "Unable to find valid pixel format.", upon launch.

On LWGLP: "Bad OpenGL Software Driver", upon launch.

I can post logs if you wish, but they show up nothing different from the other 99,999,999 threads' logs.

Wurm used to work fine on the same PC, same gfx card, same memory - nothings changed other than the software. In fact, the video card drivers are a higher version.

If your logs are the same as in other threads, surely the answers will be the same as in those threads? New answers require new logs. :)

No, because all other threads I can find say "get a b3tter graphix card" or "update ur driv3rs".

My thread says: "It worked before, and I have the latest drivers."

The latest is 8.11, not 8.10, but really, it should work even without the absolutely newest driver (since it has worked before). But still doesn't hurt to test. But it looks like something happened with your OpenGL drivers, as it is using the microsoft default ones (which are worth less then dirt) :P

As Steffe says, these are not the latest ATI drivers.

I did notice that. But when I looked at my ATI catalyst control thingy, and looked at the drivers panel, it showed the OpenGL driver to be 6.something (see quote in first post).

I will try updating the drivers anyway, I'll let you know how that goes.

Edit:

Updated to latest, no difference.

you can't have any version of openGL above 2 because no higher version has been released yet.

I think it means the OpenGL driver version.

Tried removing the other card I had in the PC, it had no drivers installed for it. No success.

Fixed it. I had to DOWNgrade the graphics card drivers, back to the ones provided with the CD. Then Wurm started to work again.

Weird  ???

Well your card is kinda old isn't it? Maybe the new ones are too new for the card, nvidia does the same :/
