fire making skill to judge fire burn duration.

Recommended Posts

Each attempt has a chance to succeed based on Firemaking skill. The affects of birch wood would not be displayed. As I understand it, every burnable item except birch burns the same. The players can mathematical alter the game numbers for birch's special case.

I can't think of an appropriate tool. It should similar to tracking in that we would only need to choose a context menu option. The numbers used in this write up are Wurm time. It could just as well give real time values

I believe that taking away the current guaranteed feedback we get and giving a tool to judge specific burn times is balanced. Put in another way, making Wurm easier by giving specific burn times and fuel info is balance by taking away the current guaranteed feedback and requiring a toon to have some skill in judging a fire.

Here are some examples of event window text.

failure:

you ponder about the fires longevity.

partial success:

You think this fire will burn for (value) hours.

-or-

Your not sure how much longer the fire will burn although it could accept (value) kgs of fuel.

full success:

you feel this fire will burn for (value) more hours and could accept (value) kgs of fuel.

None of that business where at a certain skill level a toon gains some ability. At every lvl the toon can try, just that at a lower skill failures will be more frequent.

If this fire judging ability will give skill gains its feasible to set the near 100% success rate at 50 fire making skill. Now, if it doesn't 20 to 30 would be a good 100% success point.

As an alternate option for the "Wurm must be hard" crowd. The inspection could give totally wrong numbers with no indication that it was a failure. It would be possible to advert this by continuing to inspect until the result text was the same multiple times in a row.

As an example, the fire actually will burn for 2 hours and could use 17 kgs of fuel.

Inspection text:

You think this fire will burn for 10 hours.

-or-

Your not sure how much longer the fire will burn although it could accept 5 kgs of fuel.

-or-

you feel this fire will burn for 10 more hours and could accept 5 kgs of fuel.

Thx for reading, pls comment too :)
