Posted March 1, 2012 He's complaining about not having any trees? Plant some? Just take an hour or two gathering sprouts and you can forest a good sized area, even by yourself.
Posted March 1, 2012 Heh... if you had a sickle then you could plant some sprouts. But I bet that you don't have one, seeing as it isn't a starter tool... GIVE NOOBS SICKLES!!! >
Posted March 1, 2012 it feels like a paradox that you can walk in these enormous forests of Wurm and still find no trees… Then lower the expansion rate of the vermin fruit trees.

Posted March 1, 2012 protip: attach horses to your cart (assuming you have access to any rope and animals) Well, its obvious he is using a small cart since he says it can hold 2 felled trees, so animals won't help. The pro-tip would be to build a large cart since they can hold 18 trees, and I guess even noobs can drag a large cart with 10 felled trees without access to horses. No - we need somewhere to do woodcutting that people won't care about Better woodcutting skill from chopping up as opposed to cutting down. I support the idea of adding a sickle to noob tools, OR at least a note about creating a sickle during the tutorial, when you learn about chopping trees. Posted March 1, 2012 Hehe, good to see that Rolf is getting a taste of some of the sour grape experiences of Wurm. I dislike those newer spindly grape trees less than the low spider deceivers of some months back but they do still last a good while when grinding woodcutting skill as they are eradicated from the vicinity. Then again a few dedicated foresters can replant the desired trees in their area and replant new sprouts when older ones are cut down. The only real problem arises right outside starter deeds when new players must cut down anything to light and fuel their forges. A solution could be for the Wurm gods to create peat areas on those perimiters and also enable kindling to be made from it as well as its current fuel source. =Ayes=
Posted March 1, 2012 There's a big Peat resource outside Esert, but I don't see it used very often by noobs as I don't think they realise it's potential. And I suppose that you still need a kindling to light anything, and so you still need a tree. :-/
Posted March 2, 2012 It might help if fruit trees had a bit more wood in them (not for pallisades but in general). Sure, an olive tree might not have as much wood as a pine, but it ought to be able to manage more than a single log. They're like 8 foot wide!
Posted March 2, 2012 Shameless plug: (Suggestion) Palisade tweaks Each palisade section looks to be about half as tall as a felled tree, so it makes sense. I know people are saying 10 trees is "fine", but in a PvP environment you don't have time to sit around waiting for the forest you cut down for 3 palisade wall sections to regrow, especially considering that you could have more easily made a longhouse wall. Will edit once I've done the maths. EDIT: 1 palisade wall = 10 felled trees or 1000kg of logs (assuming extreme efficiency*) 1000kg of logs = 250 planks with 100% success rate or 125 planks with a generous 50% success rate. Assuming a small 50% success rate making planks, you could make 6.25 house walls with the material required for one palisade wall. *This also does not factor the wasted 10-20kg per felled tree when constructing the palisade wall. Posted March 2, 2012 5 felled trees and 4 planks that'd be better
Posted March 2, 2012 5 felled trees and 4 planks that'd be better It may be. I think Rolf's thought process when choosing the numbers was "it has 10 trunks in the graphic, so 10 trunks it is". I'd like a compromise and say "It has 10 short trunks in the graphic and 1 log split in half, let's call it 5 trunks cut in half during the building process." The extra planks / logs are for the supports on the outside, which on the graphic is one log split in half. I say 5 logs to appease the people the thread I linked who cried "10 felled trees is perfectly logical and fair" though maybe I was wasting my time doing so. I don't think planks would fit the graphic, however, but two logs might. 5 felled trees, 2 logs is my suggestion.
Posted March 2, 2012 Pallisades are ugly, so please keep the requirements or more people will build them. Unless of course, someone decided to make new graphics
Posted March 2, 2012 Better woodcutting skill from chopping up as opposed to cutting down. I tested this quite a lot last time I grinded woodcutting from 80 to 82. I got the exact same skill gain from cutting down fruit tress vs. cutting down and chopping up pine trees. It may be. I think Rolf's thought process when choosing the numbers was "it has 10 trunks in the graphic, so 10 trunks it is". I'd like a compromise and say "It has 10 short trunks in the graphic and 1 log split in half, let's call it 5 trunks cut in half during the building process." I would prefer it remained 10 felled trees and palisades were made taller when the graphics get updated soon.

Posted March 2, 2012 I am a dedicated reforester. If you have trees in a decent walking distance from you, you can gather and plant 20=50 sprouts in around half an hour or so(I have replanted over 200 sprouts this last week). Fruit trees are not vermin, they provide juice for my wine making and add variety to the landscape.
Posted March 2, 2012 Well, being that my main deed is 3/4 surrounded by palisade walls and I am letting them all decay to replace with better QL ones (much faster than repairing and imping them), I would much prefer a material reduction to 5 trees and 5 logs. Doubt it will ever happen though. =Ayes=

Posted March 2, 2012 rolf : build a large cart. i was against them originally (since i was dragging and didn"t have animals) but... well... really, theuy move at the same speed, carry twice as much if not more, and you can later hitch a horsey or two (even a bear! ) to the cart and haul much more! make sicklles, one for every villager, and have them transplant the forest to your deeded surroundings. my deed on exodus had one -5 trees on it originally. i planted the token next to the only pine. its now a large forest surrounded by open land. it sticks out like a sore thumb but i have to walk 3 tiles for wood now. it works great. _______________________ ... side note, my contacts were bugging me and i typo twice with my eyes closed this whole post. i also spelled closed clothes, with my eyes open. maybe i should do that more often. yes. I invite you to come by my place on exodus, I'm not the best but I've found a lot of little things to do that make long walks, tedium, etc obsolete in a lot of cases. others : iron fences, tall stone walls.
