Demo of my crafting system

I did finally finished new version of demo of my crafting system (“graphics†and ideas behind the system stayed the same, but everything else changed).

Only 3 skills are working: Mining, Prospecting (for ores) and Blacksmithing.

You can walk around and enter “mines†by “walking into†the mountain. There you can prospect for ores and mine through the rock to get to them. From mined ore you can then craft items (go figure).

Both Mining and Blacksmithing can be used in 2 ways – fast or normal. Normal is a “minigame†where you each round select action you want to use and react (or not) to events which happened each round. In fast version, no event occurs and game itself choose action it will use – 1 of 2: Roll 1d10 to Progress or Roll  1d10 to Quality. In Ore Mining, each 10 in Progress (up to 50) you achieve will give you 1 pc of ore, in Crafting there is Progress you have to reach to successfully create an item (it is based on difficulty of recipe). Final Quality of item affects it stats, final Quality of ore affects mostly bonus/penalty into starting Quality when you use that ore in crafting. You can alloy ores and the alloys has different stats then their parent ores.

On higher skill levels you can use more actions, like adding special properties to the item or upgrading recipe itself. Higher skill also gives you more rounds in the minigame.

Tips:

Look into the menus at the top of screen (especially the Admin menu), you can switch on and off different things with it and also “cheat†(increase skill, tweak minigame actions, create materials w/o having to mine them etc.)

If you want just quickly test possibilities, increase your BS skill to some high value (e.g. 500), create ores through Admin menu (item Add Mats to Inv) and maybe tweak some basic action to give you both a lot of Progress and Quality. Then try some alloying and crafting.

Unfortunately due to problems I brought on myself by not doing proper preprograming phase (design doc), stats on items ended being a bit mess (to work with them, not to display them) and therefore I decided not to implement equipping items at the end. This means besides the fact that you can’t increase your stats by equipping crafted item also fact, that items don’t get damaged when used and therefore I didn’t implement even repairing.

Useful keys:

Arrows – movement

C – Change cursor – change cursor action (“click actionâ€) between Mine, Explore and Take

P – Prospecting

L – Use last recipe (If you did already used some recipe)

Admin function (working in demo, but would not ofc work in the game):

R – Refresh – restore your Energy (and also HPs, but ….. )

also if you are regarding the mmorpg.com talking about cuathon's post, he made it because he only has one core computer and the program crashes everytime tries to run it. which is real shame for me, because to his feedback i was looking most

Advertising is coming here with only 10 posts to start your own and your first one is about your new game. I'm all for new games but it seems sketchy having nothing but a rapidshare file to download with no real website/gameplay videos to share. This is a world of hackers and scam artists. If you say had you know 200+ posts or something and were known throughout the community people may take your word and try out our product. But as being a new player with 10 posts I really doubt anyone will even take a second look at it. Go google a free fraps program or use the trial and record some videos first.

Advertising is coming here with only 10 posts to start your own and your first one is about your new game.

yup that would be advertising. but there is no "new game" (or old game), just a demo of a game system which i wanted some feedback on. and the only reason there is even a demo and not just a text description is simply because it is more "telling" when you can try the system then the most detailed write up.

will i make it into a game? highly unlikely, since i lack both necessery skills and time (and when i do have time, i usually spend it on other things that programing - it took me like 1.5 yr to write just this demo)

as for the 10 posts, thats simple - i not only dont write on wurm forums, i dont even read them. when i do have time to do something concerning wurm, i spend it playing, why should i spend it reading the forums? max what i do read are patch notes.

for me the only forums i actually do read (and even there i do read only selected threads) are mmorpg.com. only reason i did posted it here is that in wurm there are ppl who 1. do like crafting, 2. are not particullary fixated on graphics, so those are the people i do look for the feedback from.

I'm still playing on the freedom server. With the now 100billion differn't servers its the best way to keep in touch with the players, so a forum community...yup. After almost 9 years I still am involved with a lot of the community but thanks for your kind words.
