suggest for how to allow personalized avatars in the current wurm.,.

Recommended Posts

well, i was thinking about this recently and i came to the conclusion that a full avatar cutomization is impossible for wurm. the 3 'cultures' would all have to be distinguishable and it would be silly to allow it to change everytime you change faith..

we dont have different races and we can intermix so a full avatar customization wouldnt work.

so, what can we do to go around this?

'cultures' specific attire!!!

this would allow each 'culture' to be recognisable from one another but allow for the avatars facial features/hair aswell as the height to be changeable.

i despise how the current system is, JK look like hoboes, MR remind me of vikings (though that is in a way kinda cool..), and BL just look plain ugly..cept the female model :P

basically, when you convert beetween the 3 'cultures' all that changes is the apearance of your clothes, and when visible armour comes into play...the look of your armour.

think how each races tower guards all look different but use the same armour and you get what i mean^^

that might mean more work, but i think it'd be worth it :P

well, thats the suggestion that popped into my head....discuss!!

and if you hadnt figured it out, i wasnt sure what to called the 3 different player groups in wurm...so i used 'cultures' :P

With the way the models are animated, it shouldn't be all that hard to just have ~20 different styled parts and then using nulls (atleast I think that's what they called them) to join them up.

When you make a character, you just select the different parts and you're done, when you change kingdom, it should come up with a body changer for the different clothes styles for that specific kingdom.

That is a nice suggestion, but it's too Runescapey so we should flame this entire thread.

Not really.

Well, looks can't be changed by will IRL...

How about clothes must be bought, hair can be changed at will, face you must pay a crapload to change.

The different kingdoms have different clothes avaiable, and when you change it goes to the default for that kingdom.

(Player1 invites you to Mol-Rehan

You Become Mol-Rehan and Player1 throws a light red tunic and pants at you)

Height is random (and constant to the player). bulk changes depending on the strength and body fat of your chatacter.

Good base idea.

Wouldn't modification be something like this?

- Clothes/Armors/Weapons -

Completely independent of character customization. If someone makes Jenn Kellon designed leggings, then you should be able to wear them, even if you are HOTS. But really its up to the players then to dye and maybe shape the items like they want. Some mol rehan smith designs a new style of armor which becomes highly requested so others follow..

- Face, Ear, Nose size etc -

configured when creating the character. Not modifyable

- Body features -

Some features like muscles could be affected by the stats of the character but height is fixed since the character was created.

- Hair, Facial Hair -

Grows and can be cut/trimmed with the right skills

Just remember though for example a game with 6 different classes and 10 different armor sets each consisting of 8 pieces that is

6*10*8 = 480 different objects to be modeled by the 3d designer. If you then add 3 different sizes, and 3 different "body builds"

you get 480*3*3 = 4320 different objects to be modeled. Thats alot of data to download too :-)

Now if someone can think if of a way to have customizable armors that are controlled by the player base rather than a few over worked 3d designers, then that could be interesting! We could implement the necessary tools, and you would create the cool looking armors yourself in your forge, at the sewing bench or using your refined leather craftsmanship.

And everyone would recognize noobs by their long beards.

Oh, and to the guy who said we have to buy clothes.. This is a game based around crafting, remember?

Could we just get something as simple as different skins for each section of the body. maybe 6 styles that you can mix and match for each section of the body should do it, 6 male and 6 female styles.

You could even implement it as an option before you start wurm. I cant see making different skins being a major problem, its simple and time effective customization. so at least we stand out from the clones  ::)

Example:

Or, for the time being, we could keep it nice and simple and just add 5 head styles for each kingdom.

Hell, really that's more texture work than anything,  like Maximus said.

Bahaha.... Cloths should be determined by the armor....

I thing the customizable features should be:

Fixed(You can only edit them when you make your character)

  - Height

  - Hair Color

  - Eye color

  - Face

Variable(that can be changed by you or your life style)

  - How fat you are

  - Hair, facial hair

  - Your muscles (shown by strenght)

Also the customizable armor idea is cool.
