Posted November 10, 2008 Can someone with experience in both give me their opinions on this? I have been using dual LS, but now I heard from someone who's been using SMs a lot that they are better. I wouldn't mind sticking with longswords, but if dual small mauls are better, I would like to change now. Thanks.
Posted November 10, 2008 small mauls are good only at high.. or really high skill and it's hard to train it

Posted November 10, 2008 duel anything is a fail ,either use maul or sword and a shield How do you figure, when I have people who dual constantly not expressing a problem? I heard shield is only good for arrows in PVP
Posted November 10, 2008 i read from somewhere that a longsword in right hand and a medium/small maul in left with normal fight mode is the best combination. that way the longsword parries a lot while the maul will inflict heavy damage on the few times that it hits the enemy. also, apparently it makes you able to effectively fight plate armour and sheilds cuz the maul is supposed to inflict heavier damage to shields and plate armour. any of that true? Posted November 11, 2008 weapon + shield beats dual anything This is the truth. When I was training my FS up from crap, I stopped for a while and just constantly grinded shield skill. Although for training weapon skill, I prefer to hunt with dual long swords, it was my shield skill that allowed me to kill things that I otherwise couldn't have with my skill and dual long swords. If you duel friends for fun, grind skill in a large shield and you will have a definite edge over them.
Posted November 11, 2008 we talking pve or pvp. i tend to favour medium maul with a short sword offhand for pve
Posted November 11, 2008 we talking pve or pvp. i tend to favour medium maul with a short sword offhand for pve It's the same..unless your fighting a dog or something a shield and ls is still better

Posted November 11, 2008 No, Right hand parries and left never parries.
Posted November 11, 2008 home server use your duel weps but for pvp you need a shield.

Similar weapon skill, fight skill? Similar ql, enchants? Aggro, def, normal stance? Mauls do more damage than long swords, and the sword/shield user spends more time parrying. I'll bet you all the silver in my bank the sword/shield user can kill some things the maul user can't, provided they have enough shield skill. I need hard numbers to work with here before I make a real wager. Killing something faster in PvE doesn't get you more skill, so I'd rather kill bigger things and get more skill. Taking animals down faster is one thing, but who gets hurt waaay more? Besides - creatures on home are weaker. mauls = stronger vs. plate is not true anymore, used to be like that on the old system. Now its all the same, no difference anymore.
Posted November 11, 2008 Ok, I've decided. LS right hand, small maul in left. How does one "grind" shield so I can use that later?

Posted November 11, 2008 I guess I'll wait until I have very high STR before I go over to wild and equip such stuff, because with 24 STR, I can't hold a whole hell of a lot.
Posted November 11, 2008 Hey mush, while it's recommended to have good skills to go to wild, it's not a requirement. As for weapon styles: longsword and shield is the best. That doesn't mean it's the only one that works. Things such as shord sword and large axe can hold their own also, provided you have skill in each. cheers

Posted November 11, 2008 Maybe a dog or something, Try that on a greenish troll or something for example and the guy who ISNT using shield will get his ass handed to him even if he has 70 overall fs. Shields are a requirement on wild. I dont know why people dont use them on home. They will turn you from killing something and coming out half dead to killing 3 of the same things at once without getting scratched at halfdecent skill :< Even at like 20-30 shield which takes no more than a couple of days to get, You will notice a gigantic difference. Not to mention if your not wearing a shield regardless of your other skills your dead in seconds from a single skilled archer. As to the small maul / longsword part, Longsword is better when your going up against things with significant fighting.
Posted November 11, 2008 Depends what. You couldn't kill a scorpion like that for example, and you'd be ripped apart without a shield. For any lengthy combat you need one
