Anyone else a "pepper-head"?

Recommended Posts

Well i was bored today so i looked up the hottest pepper in the world, since i love hot peppers and what i found is scary. Pepper hotness is measured on a scale called the scoville scale, it measures the amount of capsaicin in a pepper. (The stuff that makes it hot.) You can check the wiki page on it to see the scoville scale of different peppers. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scoville_scale

Now, i eat tabasco peppers regularly and they have a bit of a kick, about the highest i have tried is a habanero chili pepper, and it took my breath away. If you look on the wiki page the hottest pepper in the world is the Naga Jolokia and it is about 3x hotter then a habanero, and anyone here that has eaten a habanero will probably agree that it is damn hot.

So anyone else out there like hot peppers? im hoping to one day be able to get one of these Naga Jolokia peppers and put it to the test.

Oh do some youtube searches for Naga Jolokia to get some good laughs.

I like to put tabasco sauce on a lot of things, although my body does not have a very good tolerance for spicy stuff like that. I couldn't imagine something about 20 times hotter than that. I would pretty much explode.

I eat a lot of 10 star Thai and foreign foods.  The local Thai place knows to give me 10 stars, which they invented for me after they found the 5 star scale didn't apply and is 5 stars with a pile of chilis dumped in it ;D.

i have a similar story with a guy putting "Hot Sauce" in my teriyaki after i told him i like really hot stuff.  He showed me the container it came in and had me read the label.  apparently taking it without mixing it 1 drop to 5 gallons of other liquid could prove fatal for people with heart problems... needed rubber gloves to handle it because it would burn skin on contact, and would cause blindness 100% if came in contact with eyes.  it even came in a plastic clear box for shipping so it wouldnt spill or break... if only i could remember the name of it.

So he mixes the stuff with my teriyaki sauce and tells me to just dab a bit... my depth perception fails me (i dont have any actually) and i dunk the whole piece in.  That stuff was the tastiest most spicey hot sauces i have ever had.  It was one that warmed up when you ate, and if you didnt keep eating it really really heated up quick.  Needless to say my lips were bright red, my cheeks a rosey red, and my scalp was sweating profusely at the end of the meal.  I loved it.  and ate it many times.

Funny thing is my co-worker thought he could handle hot sauce... so my friend the cook dabbed the tip of a toothpick, whipped it off on a towel and handed it to him.  He ran to the bathroom and doused his mouth in the sink as fast as he could... lol

wierd thing is though, i cant stand nor can my body handle Buffalo wing hot sauces... But i love curries, cayenne pepper, Thai, Korean, Mexican... anything really that can be made super spicey.  I still havent found a curry so spicey i cant eat it.

Scoville scale of 4,000,000 that is the same as pepper spray. Or 4 times hotter than the worlds hottest pepper.

I like spicy food, but when it's so hot it numbs my taste buds and I can't actually taste the food it just pisses me off.

Also, some "pepper-heads" seem more like they're trying to get the strongest food possible instead of caring about the taste.

That is pretty much it, when the endorphin rush comes on from the heat you don't care much about the taste.
