Posted October 29, 2008 On the subject of painting: I've been meaning to ask... At one point before i recall it was considered that some items would get only partial painting surfaces, so as to prevent the paint from covering the iron ribbons of a barrel, for example (or in this case, the sail of a ship). Did that idea ever pass beyond the "want to do" phase, or was it scrapped or perhaps put on hold? ...or do i remember this wrongly?
Posted October 29, 2008 Yeah painting sail boats uses about 13kg of dye. Yeah it first it does look ugly but you get used to it. NOTE: The purple one is mine. SS Pimpmoblie FTW!!!!
Posted October 29, 2008 I have a painting suggestion I guess. If you do not have the required amount of dye to paint the object, it will come up with "Start painting". You have to keep adding paint to it, "Continue painting", and once the required amount of dye has been added, the object averages the final colour from all the added colours. That way, things like the Caravel can be painted, but it might take 20 trips with a full cauldron of dye. The item can be examined to show how much dye is needed to finish it, and the average RGB value of all the dyes already added.
Posted October 30, 2008 Can someone in the client dev team work on having a sort of alpha map that determines which textures get painted when you paint stuff. Also, it would be cool if we had the option to paint a sail individually. Would make for some cool uniqueness. These are just ideas, but I really think the first one should be considered. Posted October 30, 2008 As far as I know Hidden, they would need to remap the boat to make it at least easier. I'd like to see it as well though.
