Idea for database solution, lag reduction, decay alternative

Recommended Posts

Well I had a thought on a method to limit the items floating about the servers.  Don't get the pitchforks and torches though when I suggest it.  Simply goes something like this:

Reduce the limit of items that can be on a tile, or in a pile, or in a container.

Thats it.  Reduce it to say 20 items max per tile.  You need to dig dirt, get a cart to hold your 40 dirt.  Mining, well combine your shards so you can continue mining, or get a cart and haul out.  After all you need to muck out your work area in a real mine.  Same goes for lumber.  Still be able to fit 100 planks, bricks, or clay into a cart for tower and housing building purposes.

Still be able to have 100 items in inventory, and what you can carry remain as is current in game mechanics.

For potatoes, be able to cut a potato into 8 pieces for planting, thats how you do it on the farm.  Corn is on a cob so be able to plant a dozen per ear.  Garlic comes in cloves of like a dozen as well.  you still need to use a whole potato or ear of corn for making meals, just able to do more with less.  Cotton and wemp may stay the same as they currently are.  this will enable folks to plant enough to make food and replant with the current seed decay.

Backpacks, limit what they can hold to 40 items and 40 kg.

Some variation on the numbers can be worked out by Rolf if this sounds like a possible solution.  As it is now, its just 100 of everything.  Managing the contents of a bok is fundamental of where this idea originated.  As well as a simple idea to implement, just need to change a number in code.

Modifications and expansion of the idea are in order to make this better, more minds thinking upon this is needed.

Oh and for items like scraps and leather pieces, have the items automatically combine if dropped on a tile or generated in inventory.  Instead of saying your generating lots of little scrap its instead saying your increasing the size of your scrap piles, limiting scrap piles to 24 kg for fire fuel purposes, then creating another scrap pile.
