[2012-01-25] Test (and unstable) client 3.1 development

When I am using it, every 5-10 seconds one of the open windows flashes.

This is quite unnerving, because I always think something appeared when nothing happened.

Going back to regular one for now...

Can you elaborate this some more; What type of flashing are you seeing?

hmmm, could be similar to what I've experienced, it's as if the text is refreshing, like someone has just typed a line, but I move whatever is in the way of the bulk and find there's no new line of text. It's far less frequent for me though, closer to 10 mins I reckon.

I've had that for years, very rarely though. Always took it as a sign to take a break...

Only happens on the unstable for ne :P

The bottom little bar just flashes, right under the place for typing.

Changes in 3.1-3408

  • Improved collada animation performance (no published models yet).
  • Added option to disable voice chat.
  • Improved rendering of window titles.
  • Prevent settings save dialog from popping up when switching accounts.

Please let us know if you're still experiencing reduced performance when compared to the stable client.

It's also faster because it's not animating nothing at full speed under certain conditions.

Whatever you did in the last update, it seems to have fixed my crashing issues. 3h+ are no problem.

  • Showing heat on hover text over items in inventory. (zcul)

This is nice to have, but doesn't update in inventory, need to drop and pick up the item. Server side i guess.

Improved rendering of window titles.

I think that was the problem, can't get a screenshot because I can't catch it. Lemme check if this fixed it.

  • Improved text rendering performance. (Budda)
  • Support for more tile decorations (requires pack update).
  • Adjustments to text colors.
  • More invisible work on collada animations. (Haradur)
  • Fix (container) window sizes being too small when using a small font size.

Thanks Jekev, fixed those two, will be in next update.

I am interested to see any stats people with low-end rigs can give me. I think text rendering would've been the slowest thing with all settings turned down, so I am interested to see how much better those clients run now (if somebody could indulge me :P)

stable:

all windows showing text closed: 28fps

+event and chat: 22fps

+inventory: 15fps

+console: 12fps

+toggle debug: 11fps ~ 75ms HUD render time

unstable:

all windows showing text closed: 29fps

+event and chat: 29fps

+inventory: 28fps

+console: 26fps

+toggle debug: 25fps ~ 22ms HUD render time

"Keyboard binds now work on the "Select:" item in the target window. (zcul)"

Using the fish keybind on the "selected:" target window for dirt and sand (didn't test other terrain) doesn't work. It works fine if you keybind on the actual terrain tile. Opening a menu with r-click on the target window also works fine.

*edit Dec-6. Using the pray keybind on "Selected: altar of Fo" (its a stone altar) doesn't work. Same thing as above, pray keybind on the altar and menu selection works fine.

When you name a sign, it renames the object "Sign" but then adds "Sign (Sign)" because the name of the object shows up.

I love the new sow key bind and that you can add container to toolbelt with seeds. would it be possible to make it use queuing? Activating container always activates first seed in pile making queuing up sow action impossible.

Won't work, sorry.

Fair enough but I got another request to get a PLANT key bind added so you can plant flowers and sprouts in similar fashion as sow. The container selection already works so imagine it should be relative simple.
