New fence type: Chained poles

Recommended Posts

They would use 2 logs (24kg) and 1kg of armour chains.

These would be able to be planted underwater (up to 50 depth), and can be used to make boat pens that aren't a cave.

Like that, but more chains (shush i stole the pic from the bridge thread :) )

A gate would also be possible.

The proper dock in the photo looks better.

with the fences, and whenever bridges are added, whole docks could be made.

I'd suggest two logs, otherwise what's the other end of the chain attached to? You could say the one on the tile next to it, but what does that first one attach to?

Armour chains don't make that much sense either, the ability to make jewelry chains from iron and use those could work? A different type of chain would make more sense, but if the coding is there already... I'd suggest at least a couple of kilos per fence though.

What would they imp with? Carp presumably?

It's a nice idea. I like it.

Like in the photo, the fence could, when planted on a tile border underwater, have a static top-height above the water line (implemented as a minimum height over the server zero plane) to make sure it doesn't look awkward in dock areas.

why not shipbuilding? at least its more a kind of that than real carpentry or blacksmithing/jewlerysmithing.

Its a good concept. It all depends on the art team being able to pull it off. This sounds like it would require 2 models interacting to stop a boat from moving in between them, and I don't know if the game engine is capable of that.

1+ anyway

Modified to include 2 logs instead of 1.

Also, keeping armour chains since jewelry chains are much too small for it, and it's best to use something already existing, but upped the weight.

Surely it would just be a type of fence that you could make in water. Shipbuilding skill or something could determine the depth and slope at which you're able to plant them.

Would we be able to cross them but boats can't?

I think the point is to have a way to keep unwanted boats out of your dock area so yes boats you want to pass can?

It would work how horses and carts do, Boats can pass through if the people inside have perms, those who don't are booted off, if the commander can't it can't enter.

It would appear at the top of the water, and be only to stretch depending on your shipbuilding (2x your shipbuilding as maximum depth?)

To avoid coding issues for making them appear correctly (all the same height above the water, but always reaching into the dirt) without making them really deep (which I guess could work), perhaps a bouy system instead of posts, so bladders chained/roped together to form a fence or similar.

Just another random idea (I've had a couple of pints :P ).
