Riots In London - rhetorical perspective

Recommended Posts

@ Manny, but without criticism, why close a thread with no harassment or negative connotation. In fairness maybe any such posts were deleted?

Personally I was enjoying that thread and would like to add to the general Wurm perspective that I thought it was sad to see peoples' homes and businesses destroyed.

@ GM Rulings generally ...

You do, afaik and iirc show tact and diplomacy for the feelings and perspectives of Wurm players. Thank you for that. I like hearing what people think, as long as its not griefing people.

I dont think that thread was a grief. I am not sure Manny was wrong. I do understand why the thread was closed.

I think that the Wurm population is intelligent, is humane and is considerate. If we can talk about these things without angering each other then surely that is good? If angered posts were deleted then I guess I cant see them.

I am curious why noone mentioned this (its hardly politics, merely saddening) http://news.sky.com/home/world-news/article/16035907

My point is - its a bit sad that we cant share our humanity together as Wurmians and be allowed to do so.

I dont disagree with the basic forum policy but it would be good I think(?) if mods like Manny were allowed to allow us compassion for others?

THE recent disturbances threw up a lot of inter socio-political issues that we, as a nation, need to address now. I could quite happilly put forth my own solutions to some of these problems right here, but that would instigate a mass of posts saying 'I disgree' and would only serve to inflame people's emotions, which are already at breaking point. A lot of hurt was done in the riots and to post further on the topic in these foums would only do ill, which is why I think the original post was closed. If you really have something to say then try blogging it, or go to www.vforum.co.uk.

I think the other thread brought up some good points but there was a little too much bickering because people started getting emotional about it, which is understandable, but that doesn't imply knowledge about the issues being discussed, only opinion and speculation which is not very helpful in such discussions, unless of course there is supporting evidence which you are prepared to find.

Also bear in mind that this is the Wurm forum. If you start blaming one section of society for the issues in London and across the world even, then you are bound to meet members of that section of society in this forum. What you say, if strongly biased and inaccurate, could be deeply offensive to those users. That's what we dont want on this forum. It may be offtopic, but if it causes members of the community to react negatively then it has to be stopped. There are literally thousands of other places on the internet that you can discuss these controversial issues in considerable depth.

I won't close this thread but if it goes the same way as the other one it will be closed.
