Fish Smoking rack

Recommended Posts

Okay, so I know the idea has been circulating for a long time and lots of people would love it; I deicded to give the idea a new breath. Smoking fish in a fish smoking rack would allow the fish to be binned.

Fish smoking rack

Creation

   Activate a plank

   Right-click a shaft

   Open submenu "Create > Decorations"

Additional materials

   8x planks

   6x large iron nails

   4x shafts

    4x rope

    4x iron hooks

Result

   Fish smoking rack

Skill and improvement

   Uses fine carpentry

The item would work as a container; similar to campfires. It will have two diffirent models for empty and when you put a fish in it. When you light it, the fish will turn into smoked fish.

I understand nails, rope and hooks but why would you need 8 planks?

The fish smoking rack I see (in my mind) is more a thing made from shafts than planks.

Or going by the amount of waste making things produce: equal number of shafts and planks.

I'd say for items in total:

4x planks (two for top, two for supports)

4x shafts (two for every support)

6x large iron nails (to attach the rope to)

3x rope (half rope for every smoking place)

6x iron hooks (if there are six ropes on six nails...)

I was just picking some random numbers, and seeing as bulkboins for example take 25 planks to make, I though this wasnt that bad ;D

Well, perhaps your solution is the better. Mine has to much logic in it, I think  :D

Its like a specialised oven I guess?

I'd like to see Fish Smoking added as a subskill to Cooking.

Smoked X should have a food value better that just X, though negligible in nutrition unless hot.

Smoked Joan Collins should be a rare result having unusually high nutrition and being highly valuable when sacrifiiced.

+1 yes please. Either smoking or drying, maybe the rack could do both? Light the fire for smoked, or simply leave it for a day for dried?

Sounds like the buccan I recal buccaneers being named for. It was a wooden frame where meat would be smoked/roasted over a fire or dried in the Carribean sun.

Fish smoking is done in a tight container!

Thats more of a drying rack as that link.

So the steps should be

1. Cure fish with salt

2. Smoke it in a smoker, more similar to a coal pile or something :)

Well, anything you think is right and makes us keep fish for a longer time.. go for it :P

Salt is not common enough for this to be accessible to the masses. It might work if one salt could turn 64 kg of water in a cauldron to salt water. 64 kg should be enough to brine a few hundred fish.

I support putting fish in the fire/oven/forge which turns them to cooked fish. We can then put cooked fish in the bsb and the items standard weight is .3 kg. Yes, make it exactly like meat and cooked meat.

Good idea as well, but i would like it to be 'cooked fish' or better 'smoked fish'.

Maybe 1 salt unit could be a part of the smoker construction, much like a fruit press uses sprouts or a cheese drill uses a bladder. So you only need one initial one that's all. Iy would make salt more of a tradeable item also, right now its too rare to use often but needing a single one initially would make it valuable to others yet not TOO valuable.

So...

Hot smoking like described

Cold smoking in some other way

Salt as a mineable commodity (salt tiles?)

?

Your idea is right, but it doesnt make sence being made of wood.I dnt want my smoking rack burning to bits in the mercy of fire  ???

Or Can be made of non burning material, like iron rods?

this is an antique clay fish smoker, a homebuilt one and and a modern commercial ceramic one so surely something between those would work too:

Another option:
