Since the ultimate goal of The Game is to have everyone on earth playing, it seems to me it will last far into the future.

At some point all of the earth will be developed and linked by the internet, at which point someone will create a program that will cause everyone in the world to simultaneously think about and lose The Game at the same time. The impact of everyone on earth thinking the same thing at the same moment, all linked together by the super-internet of the future will link everyone's thoughts together into a hive-mind. The Overmind will posses the combined knowledge and intelligence of all connected as well as the total information of the internet and will be able to solve the mysteries of the universe, ultimately leading to a perfect utopia for the rest of time.
