Posted September 9, 2008 Having boats sail on wind is a great feature, but since wind only turns so few times in a while, you almost never get to full speed. Or rather always slow, slow like 2 km/h. I mean common, atleast add a minimum speed of 5km/h. Therefore suggesting the lower sails option, so you would be going on your minimum speed, but without the influence of wind. Posted September 9, 2008 I think its a good idea, but that would involve saiboats, needing oars also. +
Posted September 10, 2008 Get rid of "wind" entirely.
Posted September 10, 2008 Yes Wind is making boats unusable.
Posted September 10, 2008 yeah, it can be annoying. Some days ago i sailed in light breeze and it changed to breeze.. excellent i thought, but after 5 min it changed back to light breeze. 5 min breeze? Is that all compared to hours of light breeze?
Posted September 10, 2008 Silence, wind is awesome. If you want fast always-available transportation, go get a car. What we need is a base "rowing speed" for all boats (multiplied with passenger numbers), much like the base sail speed.
Posted September 10, 2008 Wind isn't great it annoying, i don't play to be annoyed its a game , its not fun sailing at 0.5kmh as there is a light breeze blowing at you, on other hand wind is nice when there's gale blowing in your favor and you crack 30kmh but most often your going slower than walking speed. Base speed of boats needs tweaking.
Posted September 10, 2008 With lots of sailing over the past two or three days I was almost always able to maintain 10km/h solo in a small sailboat. I couldn't always maintain this going straight into the wind, but that's just how sailing works. Going 45* to the wind seems to work quite well.

Ironically, the rowing boat and small sailing boat are, at current, the best means of sailing. If you had tried doing it in a, say, corbita, cog, knarr or caravel, you'd have had much worse luck in the speed department. This was only true until recently. The upgrading of wind speeds basically fixed boats. I sailed at 18 kph with the wind in a small sailboat, 20 kph in a corbita moments later.
