People who are getting upset about the actions of the staff

Recommended Posts

While I find your deep philosophical take on our little space on the web very interesting, I would like to point out that if everyone was not so not happy, they would be happy, and therefore content with 'dull'. For instance, if instead of feeding off conflict you chose to... study marine biology, you might find that you're more interested in the mating patterns of narwhals than how some such got muted by whoever for whatever. Right? You can't not be happy, if you're not not happy :D

If you break a rule, you break a rule.  It shouldn't matter who punishes you or who their main character is, because the basic fact is a rule was broken and it was enforced by a Chat-Moderator or GM.  I've been warned several times before by a player of an enemy kingdom, including Horton muting me as a BLer.  It doesn't matter because it's their job to moderate the chat, all chats.  So anyone getting upset over an "enemy CM" muting them-- get over it.  If you broke a rule just accept it.

A Jenn-Kellon CM muting a fellow JK member is no different than a Mol-Rehan CM muting a JK Player.  It's the same punishment.  The rules aren't allow to be broken just because the known CMs and GMs aren't online, any one of the staff should be able to help and moderate other's chat too.

Most of us would be okay with that if the rules were clear and consistant. A good example happened recently to me. I made a bid for a friend's account who was going to quit, because I knew he would want to come back, and poof the post is gone. No explanation, no nothing. The moderation in this game is so frustrating and heavy handed we have a right to be upset.

People who are getting upset about the actions of the staff, you guys really need to grow up. You have to realise, this is *their* game. This game does not belong to you, it belongs to Rolf and his developers. And the CA's are appointed by those people given that power by Rolf, therefore you should respect them and do as they say. If they tell you to stop being immature in Kchat, then do it. You wouldn't like it very much if you got someone to look after your house when you went on holiday and they let people trash the place, same principle. CAs and GMs are here to care for Wurm and keep it working at peak efficiency, and it's just not right for people to argue with them. You guys should all be ashamed of yourselves.

Also, if you're nice to the CAs and you respect them, you'll find they give their all to help you out. If you're a headache for them, they'll return the favour tenfold. You want them to be nice? Be respectful. You don't own this game, Rolf does. Play by his rules.

Most people pay premium for several accounts every couple of months and have been doing for years, so they have more than a right to express their dislikes with the game content. Its the same with any game really. Sure it 'belongs to Rolf and his team' but for example, just because a guy owns a resteraunt, it doesnt give him the right to tell his paying customers what they are having. If no one piped up about poor content then it would get left would reflect badly on the game.

i also believe chat should be moderated but the cms are taking it way way to far i mean some of us type out curses so common place its not something even thought about and some cms take the little power they have over the top muting for 5+ hours with out warning for a rude remark yes yes we all know i deserve it but hey

there are chat filtering /kchat and /ignore i dont believe the occasional swear should be punised of maby a reminder now and again before these cms mute excessive swearing should be punished same with spamming and using words that are intentionaly offensive such as the n word posting web sites to porn and what not all should be punished but also i believe each kingdom should be moderated by its own kingdom i cant tell you how agrovating it is when ur enemy sits there muting you for any possably excuse but muting us just for having fun joking around and what not ............................ i dont even know what to say to that this is wild yes we do have a couple kids here but this muting business for anything has made it so many of us cant even use ingame chat ................. i my self have been restraining my self and still am racking up mutes like crazy and half the time i really dont deserve it "lets face it enemy cm spy alts really piss me off"

you devs can allways meet us half way relax a little and have fun or why not put 2 kchat channals pg13 and and unmoderated every one

even though i dont act like i i do have much respect for cms and gms of my own kingdom jberg <3 horty <3 horden <3  but i have no respect what so ever for my enemy cm alts trying to rack up cm brownie points

Where was all the people reporting MR chat before? Because I have seen very seldom an issue, but now you can just load up a spy alt and troll for mutes, on your enemy nonetheless. Meanwhile the same CM will let people in his kingdom shout racial slurs, sexually harrasing statements and more. Sit an alt in enemy kingdom but let your own kingdom chat do w/e. NOICE

So, I'm an investor and I have the right to be heard.... nice, I want more chat moderation, then!

lol. If I'm an "investor" where is my stock? We as customers are very much stakeholders but don't delude yourselves into thinking we have any claim to Wurm or its direction. Economics 101.

You guys really need to learn that the staff isn't faction orientated - its the staff of WURM ONLINE. The whole game. Period.

I moderate whatever chat I'm in, I know there are players that are younger and don't need to see the illicit topics in kchat.  Just tonight I had quality conversations in two kingdom chats without ANY problems. If you want to talk about "other" things, use village/irc/team/vent whatever. Just not in the kingdom or local chat.

I would agree with that.

However silly things like being muted for swearing is stupid. There is a bad language filter for a reason and so moderation shouldn't be based on that. Imo things talking about drugs, adult related conversations and general anti-social behaviour should be moderated. I thin k also opinions about things shouldn't be moderated. I have seen on many occasions when people have been muted for expressing their opinions which moderation staff do not agree with, all because you don't agree it shouldn't be a mute-able offence.

Swearing in real life is frowned upon, why would it be any different in a game? You don't swear near your grandmother either.

Just becuase you can't keep your immature cursewords inside your mouth doesn't mean the rules should be changed.

There are rules for kchat and simply saying "theres a language filter, QQ" doesn't cut it. Enjoy your mutes.

Another example of why the language filter should be used for 90% of cases? Your door is open, a badger wanders in. You can freak out and call the badger-guy to remove the badger, and do this every time a badger haplessly wanders into your kitchen... gets the badger in trouble, wastes the badger-patrol guy's time.

Or you could just, you know, close the door so the badger can't get in.

that would be a good analogy jericho, except that in this case the badger is picking the locks and choosing to come in.

the filter is there for players who dont wish to see swearing anywhere in the game, it has nothing to do with the rules for the public chats.

we dont ask for a whole lot in wurm, not really. the public chats are, however, the 'face' of wurm that a new player sees when he or she first joins the game, as a result we would like to keep them polite, and reasonably clean. For me it has less to do with 'protecting young players from cussing' and much much more to do with:

This is a buisness. We have a certain atmosphere we wish to show to new customers, and to potential customers. Swearing is not part of that atmosphere.

heres an analogy for you:  you go to a library - you talk loudly - you are asked to leave. You aren't following the rules of the library, even tho you arent doing anything that would be unacceptable outside the library, what you are doing is however unacceptable inside the library.  the library wants a certain behavior inside its doors, and has a right to make you follow thier rules.

think of the public chats like a library, we have a few, simple, straightforward rules that we ask you to follow.

Another cute story:

Everyday on your way to your car to go to work, your neighbor flashes his privates at you and lets you know he likes the look of your children.. Now you can be "lazy" and "irresponsible" and call the police and have him arrested or you could do the "manly" thing; sell your kids into slavery and wear a blindfold.

There is no doubt the swear filter needs to have its vocabulary increased, but just because there is one doesn't give you the right to be obscene. No matter how long the filter list gets people will always come up with some new vulgarity that will pass right by it leading to the need for ....you guessed it ....moderation.

We're need more accessible private chat channels so these individuals that find constraints to the exercise of free speech so deplorable can sit in there and curse and swear all day long and be "cool".

Then give people other channels where they can say what they want. Being stuck with PM and Village chat isn't good enough.

Well its not like the people who want to see swearing and stuff can switch the filter off... So basically there is absolutley no reason to try and bypass the filter because you can see your own swearing but others that choose not to don't.

you have access to irc if you want to make custom channels, yes i'm aware it doesnt work for everyone, but to go back to my library analogy, what you are basically saying is "i want to borrow books and use the research facilities, but i dont want to follow your rules... do me a favor and make another library where the rules aren't enforced"

If the irc doesn't work, why try to have that cheap work-around when you can easily add channels ingame?  And if you don't try to bypass the swear filter, how does it hurt

Swearing is not publicly accepted pretty much throughout the whole planet and is frowned upon and considered unacceptable behaviour. In lots of places if done it even comes with punishment. Unlike verbal slips its kinda hard to say I accidently slipped and typed a 6 letter curse word. Given all of the above why would one feel the need to do it? Society has basic rules. You will soon learn these things and they will become clearer once Mommy stops dressing you. While expanded chat features would be nice. Mail, friends lists for chat only seem to be a bigger priority than Rolf to create channels just to give people a place to drop the F bomb every 3 words.

Its Rolfs house and Rolfs rules and if you dont like it move out. This thread isnt even needed use Common sense.
