Explore? Yes but where??

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

i am a newcomer (7 days) and a non-prem player. I like very much the Freedom Isles but i have really a little time to play (i am marryied and i have a 8-10 hours on my job every day) so i decided to don't buy any Prem. It's really a pity but that's it... I decided to don't have any house and spend my time on server to explore and plant trees, brushes and so. I'd like to do something for my new community. Since i am a low-level i would like to know if in whole Freedom Isles there are places i could not come i.e. too difficult, private properties and so.

I think to be a "lone wolf" could be better for me: explore, knowing ppl around the Isles, respect the "Nature" end replant it will take me not so much time. And when i am hungry or thirsty i can always ask for a forge to someone for a little time, to cook my food, in the meaningwhile we could talk for the last news and so on. I'd like to have a huge amount of friends and return in their home sometime, to ask "How do you do?"

Stefano

Welcome to Freedom, Stefano.

Keep to rather flat areas and main roads. Most of Freedom mountains are too steep to climb for a beginning character, not to mention all the bad things that might try to eat you.

As for private areas - well, if you encounter a settlement completely surrounded by walls, that's kinda straightforward ;). If someone leaves the entrance to their property open, it most probably means he/she doesn't mind others coming to have a look.

As for food, usually you shouldn't have any problems at all with that.

Nice to hear from new players with a great attitude to preserving a happy server!

If you have limited time, one of your best options could well be to join a large active village where you could help out whenever you are online by collecting building materials, helping farm or groom animals etc etc. living on your own is very hard, especially without much time, and even more especially without a deed to keep things secure! The other benefits of this include if you do die, you will be able to re-spawn at (or very close) to your house and if your main aim is to travel around and meet people, if you get lost a long way from home, you can just suicide to get back (assuming you're not carrying anything you really need to keep). If you do want to travel, with low skills, your best bet is probably to just travel with a couple of jars for water and some food. then it doesn't matter if you do die.

I'm sure that with the friendly attitude of your post you would be able to find people willing to let you live in (or certainly close to) their village.

Stefano, if you ever come by Stone Haven (36x/17y) I can offer you unlimited meals and a bed, no commitment required on your part.

If you like exploring, make sure to try to keep some food/water on you, as well as cotton and/or healing covers on you. Maybe some farmer's salve for bruises from falling. Keeping it light and you should be able to outrun just about any nasty thing you'll see. Also keep in mind that only brown bears and alligators will swim. So if you're getting chased by a spider, etc and have plenty of stam (like 1/2) left, a good tactic is to swim out a ways, and then back to shore a good 20 tiles away.

Someone really ought to make a newbie-explorer page with a list of commonly used equipment/items and some tips.

Or maybe a full newbie survival guide...

I started This guide (Click Clicky) for newbies who want to explore (And hopefully survive it).

Also, I left out a compass from my guide because I'm uncertain if new characters start with one, and I really don't think the bad QL ones they'd likely end up with help considerably.

Any comments/improvements would be appreciated. :D

Anacondas swim also and because they are so green/small, they are hard to see until they are actually trying to eat you.

One thing to always be leary of, a lone pig on a hill side. If you come across a pig like that its a trap and you should be scanning for a lurking spider waiting to nab you.

Might want to add a shovel to the important tools section. Once you get around 10 digging it is immensely helpful to flatten those slopes you just can't quite climb ^^

Hi Blubasso,

I like your idea of exploring, to maximise the time you have to play.

Even so, I would like to offer you a place in our village :).

The benefits you would get to this are twofold:

You have a place to lay your head when logging off(we give you a bed and locked chest in the dorm rooms).

You don't have to worry about wasting your limited time online building a house, or tools/etc.

We can provide you all you need to go adventuring (tools, rope, bandages, food, water, weapons, armour), as long as you share the spoils of your travels with us (be it information about the local area, mine locations you have found, nice places to hunt, nifty shinies you may find, animal materials if you kill/tame things on your travels).

We could also offer you use of the boat we are starting to make, if you want to set sail and explore the high seas :).

You could be our scout/explorer :).

I'm sure we could come to an arrangement that would be beneficial to both of us :)

Send me a message in game if you want to chat, Ingame: Owen.

Nice catch. I'd forgotten about anacondas.

You're always welcome to a meal and a safe place on my deed, I'm on Black Dog Island. I also have a boat, I will gladly take you whereever you want to go when you feel the wind whisking you in a different direction.

Good luck on your travels!
