Posted March 10, 2008 A Sea Shanty about a boat called the Raven that travels between Home and Wild ... mp3 The Raven On the day of awakening Just before dawn Did they board Four salty fisherman Bound for the wild With their hoard Raising the mainsail They looked for the wind The spray in their faces Erasing their sins And calling the gods To keep storms far away They were gone Chorus: And the Raven cut through The shattering waves The darkening skies Would threaten the brave But with her bow ever forwards Her mast held up high She ran As she creaked and she groaned Her sail was torn hard The rocks loomed before her Like devil wrought towers But her wooden heart beat To the song of the storm And she ran Their boat was The Raven And strong was she built Out of oak They trusted no other To battle the seas’ Cruellest joke But they gambled too much And they left far too soon And plunged were they then In the darkening gloom And the gods laughed just once As they raised up the Blackest of storms Chorus Joe’s tired face was all Wrinkled and worn From his years He heart always knew that His fate would be in Salty tears He looked to his comrades Said, "This is the night When we sail one last time To awake with the light Pray to your gods And hold onto your hope As we die" But the boat felt his fear And took pity on those At her oars And looked at the rocks And knew there was only One course And lifting her heart To the beckoning sky This was the night The Raven would fly And she raised to the heavens Her immortal bow And she ran Chorus mp3 (© 2008)
Posted March 16, 2008 On the ship they sing as they see it. Next time they see it, I am sure they will sing about it! When they next come down into the harbour as Small Bears, I will be sure to get them to sing some more! (Thanks Pendragon!)

Posted March 17, 2008 Well, 'Twas one of those days in Wurm. I was leaning by Needle's Barrel of Stuff, just by the Harbour Master's lodge oin the quay; you know, down at Small Bears. Sol had risen fast that morning in her rush to climb over the mountain and her fingers caressed the clay on the headland, making little waves in the air. I drew on the blade of grass I was chewing, the long habit of my pipe is still to leave me fully, and I fancied I saw a small but stoic craft, her sail set fast to the East, making her course into the seas beyond the The Bay of Bears. It was all to easy so dream of what her life might be; trading here and there, most times legal, but sometimes on the edge, taking risks beyond her making but somehow always pulling through. Then as I looked and dreamed. the vision changed. Her sails turned to wings, her bow to a proud beak, and the raven lifted off the horizon and flew into the dawning sky... Kind I wrote herself after that. So I went back into the tavern and chewed on a fresh blade grass.

Posted March 14, 2012 That was very entertaining and relaxing, though I have one thing to complain about: the song is far too easy to get stuck in one's head
