Posted January 9 It's difficult to make everyone happy in any event. I thought the work that went into this event was good. Seeing Santa fly in and beam up reindeer UFO-style was a nice change of pace. And it was also great that we could get multiple gifts instead of 1 or 2 for doing the task. I think the people that are complaining about the time involved aren't realizing that it's greed that they're having problems coping with. The increasing number of reindeer food to receive more gifts makes sense so that everyone can participate and the few people with loads of time on their hands can't exploit so hard. Everything about the way this was done makes sense to me. But I must say that the cooldown between reindeer feedings was the problem. People were left standing in the desert for ~26ish seconds with nothing to do, which is a problem in a game where there are always things to do and you're behind on most of them. I think this exact event could be improved by giving one gift per day during the event(using 1 reindeer food), instead of an increasing number of food and wasted time with the cooldown. I think most of the complaints would be resolved by making that change for next year.
Posted January 9 While i agree about the event and that complaints were overblown, I disagree about the cooldown. Complaining about is spoiled brat-ism at its worst. For quite a time, I had to ride around, and actively search for the reindeers (became more over time). It took a while until I encountered the quite funny Santa message to wait, and never saw a problem. Granted I stopped after the 50 deer mission, that one was still ok for me, more would have been a chore and a tedium, others may feel differently. But the cooldown is part of the setting, Santa is riding the skies, not teleporting. So it is logical that he has no response time in milliseconds.
Posted January 9 event was fine.. it's just a bit slow and gets tedious to get more and more and then turn them and wait on the timers.. you start to get enough time .. it starts to tax you more than you get in return and you are quickly discouraged to continue, and that's fine, it's intended to be that way.. and to limit your rewards or incentivize spending money to involve alts for more(gifts/rewards) for less(effort/vs currency cost).. to be fair... santa is secretly perfecting his venison roast secret recipe and he's probably a wizard at it at this point given how many deers unsuspecting players give to him to continue his culinary sorcery art.. can't wait for next year, maybe we'll get to steal his recipe and cook something amazing.. who knows (that's maybe cool halloween cauldron recipe quest idea.. kill spider, troll, goblin .. x1 of x/y/z or 5 of same type to complete similar to deer mission..) what I wanted was a better set of santa figurines.. I only got one.. I am certainly NOT a fan of any of the hanging trinkets.. want more practical things.. but that's me.. seasoned decorations are cool but.. every year 3-5 new snowflakes.. gets old fast and turn into bloat content(feedback) event arch statue or statuettes are cool imo.. also.. once in a while... can we get new statues... stuff like new fountains are totally bad thing to be a skin.. and could should of been new content not skins... slow-er content could be archaeology frags, which doesn't hard limit but somewhat puts a slight limit on generated items.. sure somebody still can get 100x but will take considerable amount of time or currency investment and this is gameplay... playing or wallet warrior-ing.. at the end wont matter if both are possible the game needs constant new flow of content.. which is not skins... rifts are dead content(nothing new added to them), they had "many" tweaks, that's not content, it's few values juggled around, "clown work", it's fun.. but quickly you get bored of it, we had a bigger rework with the dmg.. etc.. but a lot of good feedback about damage outputs priest vs nonpriest, spells vs no spells was ignored completely, colossuses do not offer anything more to nonpriests vs casual priest doing better at rifts with buffs, spells, hopefully.. one day.. we get some kind of rebalancing for rifts and pvp, pve... all use damage.. and priests had many limitations lifted, non-priests can not cast simple spells even with 30faith/150 favor pools of favor etc.. missions with find x creature etc are not equal for all, sacrifice ql30 xhundreds is dumb type of mission and not ideal for priests, ... a lot of everyday and event things could use a touch to make more sense and benefit all from being allowed to do them efficiently
Posted January 9 The cooldown between reindeer killed this event for me. Just miserable to stumble into a group of deer and know you are just going to twiddle your thumbs for a while. The insane ramp up of x^2 for additional gifts makes sense to limit a flood of special items into the game...But the cooldown between deer ruins the flow and momentum of participating. I would prefer no cooldown and just let the deer blast off on their own. Perhaps only have the whole Santa animation play out when you are getting a new gift? Looks really dumb to find a group of deer all together, feed one, watch him come beam it up and then blast off into space only to immediately summon him back to the same exact tile. Ad nauseam. TL:DR - Remove the cooldown between reindeer feedings and the event is fine.
Posted January 9 My honest feelings is this has been the best Xmas event i can remember, Normally you get the one Xmas gift where its useful or you hate it. The effects of Santa flying in was impressive and the team working on it should be commended. The cooldown does take a bit of time but it hasn't affected my gameplay, i guess it would affect the people bulk buying to get more presents the most. Overall myself and my kids have enjoyed the challenge this year from gathering and collecting the presents or you have the others who have spent all Christmas slaying the reindeer for skill. Posted January 9 4 hours ago, WurmCity said: I think the people that are complaining about the time involved aren't realizing that it's greed that they're having problems coping with I don't particularly fancy the Halloween events either, and while I had complaints about all the bugs involved in the last one I had no problem with the event itself. And now you might be thinking to yourself "but they're the exact same thing!", to which the short answer is "No". But I'm going to elaborate on that so you can better see the point me and all the other "greedy" people are peeved about: The Christmas gifts have always been a way of thanking players for purchasing premium, but starting with the Christmas event of 2023 that is no longer true. It's not a "thank you" to make people chase down the gift that was traditionally handed out as a "thank you for spending your money on the game this year". To add insult to injury the events have become more elaborate, more drawn out and more time consuming (and I'm not talking about the archaeology part of the event, or the skillgain bonus, only the gifts that were traditonally used as a "thank you"). And the gifts are all sourced from models created by people who are in no way affiliated with Wurm Online. It would have been very easy for the developers of the game to activate the Christmas tree function (or even the wallhung stocking) to let the players who do not have the time and energy to chase down the gifts get their "thank you for purchasing premium this year" gift. But they didn't, and they don't have to when they can count on the players to turn on each other and start calling each other "greedy" as soon as one person's opinion is slightly uncomfortable to another player's enjoyment of the Christmas event. Would I care if they gave us our Christmas gifts in the traditional way and had an event on top of that for the people that enjoy participating in them? Of course not - Aside from bugs and lag that they might cause it wouldn't concern me whether people were out having fun or not. I can assure you we do not want to rob you of the event: We just want to feel like the Christmas gift is a "thank you" and not a "#### you".
Posted January 9 It would be nice and simple to make "this year's gift" come from tree or stockings, and the "gift hunt" event runs for all the past holiday items. We'd get real gifts for free, and those who want to collect hundreds of items from previous years can do that with some extra effort. 🤷♂️

Posted January 12 Thank you everyone for participating in the Christmas event, and thank you for the feedback! We understand that having the Christmas gifts be gated behind an activity, however quick it may be to finish, is a large change from just receiving the gift items by asking Santa or clicking on the Christmas tree. We're not against having both a regular gift and an event, but it's always a question of priority. We'll see how much development time we can dedicate to it this year, but if we're able to do a unique event like previous and this Christmas, we'll lean towards that - we'd much rather add content to the game as an activity that everyone can play through, rather than gift a single item to each premium player, which may not be to everyone's liking. Still, I agree it'd be best to keep both, so we'll aim for that. The randomness in gifts received after the new items was not ideal, since the missions got significantly longer each time, so we'll try to avoid that in the future. The cooldown definitely missed the mark as well - in this case we thought it was the best solution to avoid having to clone Santa while he was picking up the reindeer, but it was too much given how many animals had to be returned for the later stages of the mission. Lessons learned, and we hope that other than those shortcomings, the event ended up being fun to play.
