Make compass part of the UI

Recommended Posts

With the influx of new players and the upcoming action rework I believe compasses should be integrated into the UI instead of being a separate item. This would simplify navigation eliminating the need for an additional tool. While players currently start with a basic compass. I think the UI compass should function as if it were a high-quality high-cast compass.

How is a quality of life improvement unrealistic?  It would be a permanent compass that can be toggled on off.  If you dont like it, simply toggle it off.

Considering you can drop a sword on the ground and it always faces north, does kinda seem pointless but i love the fact compasses are items so i gotta go -1 on this. The addition of an improvised compass with a needle, a thread and a small branch would be cool af though, have to activate it on water to get a compass that appears until you move.

+1 for UI act as basic 10 to 20ql compass by default without need to have one in inventory, but for better experience then you have to add better player made compass if you want

I'm not really keen on rendering the compass obsolete - I'd rather there be a tangible benefit to having a compass item or similar item in inventory.

I have to agree, rendering an item obsolete by including high QL functionality as part of the UI seems very Anti-Wurm to me.

Of course you can always find the direction of the east and west poles by remembering that the sun always rises in the north and sets in the south.

Let me guess, the next suggestion will also be about "quality of life improvement". For example, make a "compass" in form of a small window in the upper right corner that shows your location on the map. And "If you don't like it, just toggle it off".

If "quality of life improvement" means "making the game simple", then you can just go play Minecraft, and not try to turn Wurm into Minecraft.

I'm fine with QoL tools so long as they are tied to items that you have to create/obtain and have in your inventory. The dioptra lets you work out what region you're in for example, and cartography maps can be helpful for understanding your local area. If there was a way to progress compasses further, for instance by enchanting them to point towards a specific location rather than north, that'd be fine too.

-1  Wurm doesn't need a default compass just toggle on the one you have.
