Posted September 4 (edited) I am not sure if this has been mentioned before, but it keeps coming up during play. Today someone posted an ALT link to a weapon in Trade chat. On mouseover I saw that the item was runed with "RBrJ" which I knew to be The Brass Jackal Rune. I pressed ALT to double check the effects of this rune, but the pop up only changed to show "Brass Rune of Jackal" which I knew already! At that point I really needed to see the details about the effects of the rune, but was unable to do this without being able to examine the item in person. Please change the mouseover text to briefly show the rune effects of a runed item when ALT is pressed (especially in Trade chat). I think we should not have to PM the seller, ask in CA help, load the Wiki or go out of game to the Forum to find out this info. Thank you! Posted September 4 Yes please 100% It gets tiresome when trying to sell something that has 3-4 runes on it, and after linking it in trade, I get 5 messages asking to know what the runes are! At this point I've stopped listing them and just have them sitting in chests waiting for a change to this some day!
Posted September 5 Hmm. There is already so little room in tooltips, I don't see that being feasible. Don't get me wrong it's a great idea in theory and I'd love not having to reference the Wurmpedia! What if there was a slight alternative? Perhaps the ability to Examine item links in chat? That way the runes and their effects show up in Event tab...
Posted September 5 (edited) I did think of that @Baeowulfit's a great idea too. Examining things for the first time in person can put your signature on an old item or a new item that doesn't have a signature yet, or one just received from another server, so the Devs would have to make sure that any Examine Item action in Trade chat (or any chat) is a one way action, and very different from examining the item in person, so that the original item remains unchanged. Imagine if two people are standing close by on the same server and Person A links an item link in chat to Person B. What we don't want is Person B examining the link and adding a sig to the item belonging to Person A however near or far the distance between them. I believe there is a failsafe system that prevents items on NPC merchants having a sig added which might be adapted, but I am not 100% sure, and have never tested it, but unsigned items on deeds and in buildings can currently have a sig added by 3rd parties simply by using Examine, so permissions for these automatic signatures still need to be looked at. Thanks for mentioning Examine though, it's a sensible option if it works correctly. Edited September 5 by Muse Reworded
