If you were a dev, what Wurm feature would you take on?

Recommended Posts

This could be a simple tweak or feature that irks you the most, an idea or old suggestion you really liked or something you've seen or had in other games that you'd import to Wurm as it stands. What comes to mind as that top fix or project that would continue to make Wurm better, if any.

I have to say after writing about a Wurm with variable water quality from different sources, that stands as my favorite atm, it's a bit of a project but we've seen much bigger projects come to light.

I'd add more skins for things you can sit on to rack in the dough from oblivion

Actually I change my mind. If we could have archeologists dig up some ancient sci-fi stuff we can take Wurm galactic. Populate planets and rule the stars. That'd have to be my main project ahem ?

That's a biggy. It could be the way and I'd be all over the editor.

Going android/ios

Another huge step for the game, swiping through bsbs and forges, fully playing Wurm on the smallscreen. If anything would make me get a good phone it's that I must say.

A minimalistic GUI with straight box edges, no clickable surfaces that are invisible, no text embellishments and no visual elements that are there just to fill out the space. No standardized iconographic representations randomly used for something non-standard. I'd also want the in-game fonts to be consistent (with no ambiguity between letters or between lower and upper case) - They should at the very least belong to the same stylistic font family.

I'd also want something equivalent to the old toolbelt, but that doesn't take up a bunch of unnecessary space like the quickbar does.

More incentive to PVP! PVP "Points" You could take over to Freedom for cosmetics or some other neat things.

I would save the camera position locally so when I start the game up it won't be in first person mode every time.

It ain't much but it annoyes me.

Nobody is changing engines. Choose something you can actually accomplish.

I would utterly eradicate anything that modifies the rate at which skill is gained. That means affinities, temporary affinities, sleep bonuses, enchantments, etc.

In their stead I would implement meaningful bonuses that translate directly into practical effects. Different cooking recipes would give significant bonuses to stamina/regen/health/smithing improvement chance/casting power/casting difficulty/…, modified by ingredients.

The baseline of a character without food would be much lower than now.

The next thing I'd excise would be teleportation.

Fair enough. I like the general idea of this but I'm no chef so it'd be wasted on me. (I'd have to lose Fill and rare saccing to get me to the oven) You've obviously thought through the benefits of having it that way and I can't argue with that but no sb, affinities or CoC, a very radical change there from what we're used to.

No teleportation is interesting. Having to sail everywhere would be quite popular yet manage to upset a large section of the player base at the same time lol. You can also argue that would make Wurm better and I'd probably agree but it also seems like a step backwards in convenience. Nice posts here guys, these are some great and unexpected responses. Cheers!

And you won't believe what I'd do to make travel on mounts a lot more dangerous.

We've had a lot of that dangerous mount stuff lol, having mobs attack your horse was quite memorable, glad that's gone. Always up for originality though. I wanted the horse to be at the center of the fight, rearing up and kicking as dismounting moves.

I would build a new client in Unity as priority #0.

edit: I suppose I should justify that as it probably sounds completely insane!

Basically, no matter what is done with the Java client it will never look or feel competitive with even the most midrange games coming out on modern engines. This will always hold back Wurm's potential to reach a wider playerbase and succeed commercially.

It's not gone, it's just less frequent (and it still sucks).

Make Wild/Chaos a PvE server. Completely remove/rework tomes and meditation on PvP servers. Remove PMK's, give the option for players to pay X amount to allow custom made wagons and tabard's be placed into the game.

You will never switch engines. Making a completely new Wurm 2 on a forked version of Godot is more realistic, and you'd need a dozen or so people and a few years and several million €.

I would personally invest more time into the grid of the game and objects, specifically focusing on figuring out how to make the game a bit more '3D' in the sense of being able to mine over existing tunnels, bridge over bridge etc. Its a big task but its one of my first focuses.

I would add goblin camps and dungeons  ....  ?

New wall types with ceiling also .

Angled walls and rounded walls .

A roof that goes to the wall not making a peek in the middle .

easy..the chronicly broken updates.. end them

Oh a complete metallurgy update, incorporate the pottery skill making crucibles instead of mind numbing mixing hot metals with our hands.

actually making arrow bundles a sane aspect of wurm individually adding up to 90+ arrows per bundle… who hates us.

Make rules against alliances that operate with the sole purpose of selling overpriced items to newbies at starter villages while holding them captive in a barren forest deed.

if we are stuck with a shop, then at least make it so it automatically cycles through past released skins every so often. Just adding a new skin every month is weird if you never see it again.

make moon metals mineable in freedom islands in very rare random locations to enrich prospecting gameplay.

Enrich tracking skill to allow catching the scent of uniques and mission specific traitors, or make uniques have a sound or effect on an area to many uniques are dying from boredom and need our company.

adding more ways to level animal husbandry so were not hogging all the animals that new players have already a hard time finding.

Rework all tomes and valrei items, most of the spells are either underwhelming or broken, yes i see you summon skeletons. Maybe a magic non priest style update for spells and such.

increase the size of items that can be placed on furnature. A small chest can’t fit on a bedside table…

add more missions or limit the amount of bring x to this avatar. 4 of these missions at the same time for a week is awful.

removing the system that makes new premuim characters make more rares than older characters. Make it the same for all of us.

make full nutrition actually mean something. Remove sac refresh, make it add 10% more exp instead of 5% at max nutrition, find a better solution to affinities so full house pizzas aren’t the only meta.

Allow sleep bonus limit to 30 hours for weekend players to stay relevant. Full time wurmers are gods. Like have it be increased as the player gets older, has premium for x amount of months as a reward for staying with the game.

And or go full shop and remove the premium status, we pay for land as it is. Younger folk  do not like this model anymore

remove LT from weapons and have it as a shield enchant only. Right now there is coc. two handed on LT and fo follower has is to powerful.
