Posted July 8 Google is far better at finding what you need than this forum's inbuilt function. I find it odd, anyway, as you'd have thought you'd want as much exposure of the game in search results
Posted July 8 (edited) If you know how to use the filter methods on this forum there's no reason to use Google. I've never had a problem finding what I'm looking for. Edited July 8 by Kinganon

This does absolutely not suffice as a workaround for all the functionality that was lost when the index searching stopped working. I think you and Derp come from two very different utility camps on this - And I'm in the one Derp's in, and agree completely with his point. I understand that there are valid reasons for disabling it, but man: The forum search function is very lacking and frustrating, and I've missed the google searching basically every day since it stopped working. Posted July 8 Google is indeed 50x better for finding something than the search function built in

The please wait x seconds is indeed very annoying.

You don't see it, but there are very many of us that do - And who used it regularly back when it was still an option. It is perfectly fine that you don't see a need for it, and that you wouldn't use it even if it was an option. But it also does not affect you in any tangible way that we do wish to be able use Google index searching for the forums again. Posted July 9 How odd. Did we ever get confirmation on why it was done? Whether it was intentional or not?
Posted July 9 This forum is still formatted from 2008, of course Google is a better option.
Posted July 11 I remember Wurm talking about blocking Bots from accessing the Wikipedia to improve its performance. Did they do the same to the forums too? I also prefer to use a Google search over Wurm's.

Posted July 31 It was disabled due to performance reasons, as some of the web crawlers (not Google but similar) were overwhelming the forum at times. We intend to move both the forum and wiki to a better host soon, and with that we can revisit the bot policy, including allowing in Google crawlers.

Posted October 31 Why give Google the ability to strip all forum contents to train their software for free, and also try to link identities cross-site to personally identify Wurm players for advertising purposes? Better to ban all crawlers permanently. If the forum search function needs to be improved (which it does) then do that.

Because people use google to google their problems or the game itself, most new players first found wurm through the forum. Taking the forum out of the google also takes away visibility of the game and its community from the web.
