Is game login dependent upon Discord access?

When I start a Wurm client, I receive the normal username and password client window.  I click play, the other splash screen window appears saying that it's logging in as usual, and then very soon after, this appears:

I can see from another account that the blocked(?) account is in the game because it shows up as logged in on the friend's list.  I cannot close the window or exit the game because when I click the "X" in the top right of the window, the dialog box, which should appear asking if I really want to exit, is not visible.

Seems like bad game design if the game is dependent upon Discord for logging in.

Yeah that's Discord screwing things up. The game is probably working just fine underneath that message, but overlays like that are inserted without the knowledge or cooperation of the thing they're overlaying, so there's nothing Wurm can do about it.

Discord was down today but no you don't have to use discord to play the game.
