 I for one, would have no complaint if they were in that style.

Also, what are those people on the right doing!?   If they are trying to put a bag on that guy's head, they are doing it wrong.

And give it a negative armour value.

Well, I have to say, looking at many of the screen shots submitted to the recent competition, to put them on the website, the preponderance of teddy bear backpacks, bunny backpacks and fluffy bunny ear hats has convinced me that the Wurm Online aesthetic that actually attracted me is irretrievably lost.

Seasonal event items that are ONLY cosmetic are one thing but silly/funny skins that go on functional equipment to permanently alter the appearance is a wholly different, and to me unwelcome, development.

Now we have the "crow helm"; a skin to go on a standard open helm to make it look like a bird's head.   Note that the Community Manager has described it as "This funny looking crow helm (a skin for the open helm item)"   Something is being sold at the shop as "funny looking" for a game that has had a specific aesthetic that is only ever funny looking accidentally or due to shortcomings in the technology.   Granted, it is not as garish and ridiculous as the bucket head, but the margin is narrow.

We are now well down the path of frankly juvenile cosmetics for sale at the game shop.  Essentially, destroying the very aesthetic that made Wurm unique and attractive has now been monetized.

It's been said before , but worth repeating. When a game introduces gimmicky and joke items time and time again until saturation, the game itself becomes a joke.

We got yet another helm skin...but no skins for some of the most requested items...like carts, wagons, ship sails, forges, ovens....and the list goes on forever. There are countless suggestions showing what people want, yet they do another helm skin.

A Crow skin....Crows are not even an animal in Wurm. You cannot find a crow, you cannot see a crow, you cannot hear a crow, you cannot touch a crow, because there are no crows in the game, living or dead, but now we can put one on our heads.

Is it time for DAEMON EYES!?

BEE costumes?

What about DEITY themed cosplay costumes!!??!?! hm?

Who wouldn't like to dress up like Fo and party hard all night with a crazy face like that.

Pfft.. decorations are way to express something, being yourself or fit into a theme of some event or just stand out somehow, bigger variety and actual availability to obtain items will allow all to be somehow unique and find somebody in the crowd instead of fight over who was that 1 of 10 people looking the same.

With scale/hide/etc skins etc.. all of the endgame content is already at a deadend where we all dressup in same pajamas and none means anything, stats do not do anything if you can buy override of endgame perks for few cents, so.. new content is desperately needed to cover the flatlined customization and endgame obtainable content; think new armor or modifications, rare improvements and stuff to do to keep few stand out, and other craving some of that rare content to be in the group of few with the cool stuff;

along all the mess of random things.. somebody needs to come up with balance and current vs endgame and how it could scale.. what time it requires for single or 10-alt herding shepherd or buying progression... unique drop/vs non-tradeable progression items and currencies/etc.. content is needed to keep the people busy and happy, chasing random carrots/cake slices or w/e they are after;

Skins definitely drive good amount of returns vs the cost to make them.. so why do so few get into the game, why aren't there more than once a month skin/s, why isn't there constant infuse of skins for items which people have most often equipped or using.. why aren't there limited or varying wagon/cart/etc skins? It's a hoarder game, everybody wants to gather a lot and have a lot and still have the fanciest and craziest rarest thing which the other doesn't or only a few own, why aren't more new things which look cool and keep people happy coming in?

I don't mind crow themed things though. Wurm's overall theme is central-northern European medieval with magic on top, crows fit in that just fine.

There could be a good way to do this without the jarring anachronistic or outright goofy skins.

We already have quite a few skins for weapon, helmet and shield items.

Upon creation, give a dialog box to select an available skin to apply.

If you have it in inventory, Bob's your uncle.  If you don't, you can pay the going silver rate and THEN Bob's your uncle.

Work on more styles for more items of equipment.  Helmets are a good start (there are many RL variants to select), but other armour is also widely assorted.  Plate armour had many styles, as did leather armour AND cloth armour.

Make the cost reasonable - these cost the company practically nothing so margin is not the issue.  Making them lower cost will make it much more saleable.  A full suit is 9 items, so there is an opportunity to sell a lot of skins to allow a lot of customization.

Then move on to other items.  Timber tables could use some love.  Wagons could have a "no canvas" skin.  Small sailing boats could have various sail configuration (lateen, battened, crab claw for e.g.)

There is so much scope to make so much money from cosmetics that doesn't have to throw out the "fantasy European mediaeval" aesthetic.
