Maybe we could have a bunny armor skin instead.

Never heard any complaints from people in 25 villages in alliance. Its just variety and thats always welcome...

Please add more cosmetics or even just craftable clothing.

this thread have really developed into a woodscrap material with the nfts and illuminati stuff..

So.. can we just request change of the new ears from such to modest festive cap with easter eggs/young chicken and some eggs and dodge the lewd playboy/etc ears and (E)RP entirely?

That's one of the main concerns and by a lot fits the world and rules of game's aesthetics.

It's a seasonal cosmetic...

We have magical snowmen that give away snowballs - are those against wurm lore or are we assuming that maybe a little seasonal fun is worth it?

I've seen PMK graphics that look more out of place than a pair of bunny ears.

I had non wurm friends comment on how odd the snowman looks. But at least that one is not wearable with day to day gear or a skin, so you won't see if all the time.

I made this thread just to suggest removing the ears before Easter. Now it's pretty much a discussion on the kind of cosmetics.

Most ppl here, including me, is pointing at the chance that the quantity of gonzo style skins and items added to the game will keep ramping up like it's now. PKM graphics were already spoke about in the discussion that was erased on the patch topic, iirc.

Adding 1 item or two per year, and then suddenly add 5-6 items in a few months is not exactly the same: if the trend keeps going, in 1 full year we will have more gonzo items that we had from wurm start.
We already spoke about immersion and why having it broken is bad as a fact. Ignoring facts leads to bad things happening.

Saying that these are not facts, is ignoring reality, we already saw that happen in wurm a couple times. Please let us not repeat the experience AGAIN.

Immersion breaking is being able to plant hedges on one side of a path but not the other - or watching a spider emerge from a tree.  It's the nightmare experience of realising your cat snagged on a corner at the last deed you passed 20 mins ago.

It's everyday experiences, not the weird and wonderful things people wear; indeed, seeing another player is a rare enough event to call it immersion breaking!

While I would rather not see wurm turn into an anime dress up simulator, I don't think a pair of bunny ears has taken us there yet.  Nor do I think it is on the path to doing so.

Why don't we get a poll in game for what is released in Wurm once in a while?

A thematic like this would be perfect for that. This would reach a much wider audience and provide a better insight into what the community actually wants than people saying here that most don't like a certain cosmetic. And it would be a great way to see if the future the dev plans aligns with what the players expect to see in Wurm. Could even sent a poll out via email to prevent alt accounts to be used to vote.

Let me tell you all about a quick short story of a game that is clearly fantasy, has magic, weird and wonderful creatures, vibrantly aggressively colored objects, a mish mash of technologies and is set in an entirely made up location and time.

Which now finds it's self having one of it's regular seasonal events where Santa, Easter bunny, Valentines Day or Halloween features. And has in the past given us such immersion adhering items such as Singing gnomes that would steal items, Skeletons that make copious puns, Magical Snowmen that generate snowballs, Lanterns made of snowballs, Reindeer that sparkle, Shoulder pads made of Pumpkin and Cages complete with their very own immortal bat pet.

But this year the Player base while searching for berries in the grass stumble upon a Basket and a message for help from the Easter Bunny letting the player know they've fallen and can't get up. All accompanied with a watercolor map. After following the eerily accurate map, they dig up a perfectly preserved corpse of the Easter bunny who obviously died after their fall and not being able to get up (but was able to hurl the Basket several hundred meters away as a cry for help). Upon this corpse the players find colored eggs and a pair of wearable bunny ears.

"MY IMMERSION" the player base collectively cries out in anguish as they place the Bunny ears upon their head and ride home on their Hell Horses, Unicorns, Giant Weta's and Champion Crocodiles determined to write a angry forum message.

The End.

Seriously though, this thread has been very entertaining - thanks for the laughs!

Glad to be of service now lets hope they get rid of the those too

Once upon a time there were two ancient families who had agreed upon a border to divide their lands turning their family estates into the kingdom and empire, at one point in time a mysterious portal was found and instead of being fearful they send through explorers who found pristine lands untouched by anyone and thus set out to explore and colonize them.
Years go by technology advances, disaster strikes, history is lost and countless lives are sacrificed but from the turmoil rises a free people who form their own alliance, an alliance of isles where the common man can own land without worry and fear of the big and powerful families hunting them down in their sleep.
But with this peace came a price their habits of old were lost they found no more joy in using yoyo's as they had no one to hold competitions with anymore so instead sought out puppets to talk to and in time they grew crazy they envisioned traveling to jackal, they had feverish dreams of 10 story tall creatures appearing out of thin air only to disappear again but worst of all?
It gave rise to a small group of tinkerers who's goal it is to make a mockery out of the years of work these free people put in, these people formed new houses aimed to control the lands of old only to rise and fall themselves faster and faster each with a worse dress style then the one before as if they had to outdo their predecessors and in time this curse spread to the free people they to now started to desire and collect weird oddities that the lands had never seen before.
It started out simple, a single item someone said and they all agreed a single time was not that bad but then more popped up and people desired to hoard them just to look unique just to look different.

In time that single item grew to be a handful and then some people started to rise up against it, at first it was among themselves talking about how they did not like the direction that others were going with this new craze of wanting to cover themselves in weird new clothes.
But they stayed silent and then some more came and more and the silent voices started to grow louder like they had done in the past they started to talk about it more asking to not go further but once again these voices were ignored and mocked, people were laughed at when they told others they would set sail and not return, they were mocked when asked if people could please not dress like that. All that this did was make the voices louder and louder and now they fear for the future.
These people were content with the way their fashion was going but seeing this new trend makes them scared of the future as stories of old, stories of faraway lands and ancient texts speak of similar trends that lead to downfalls of their kingdoms and these people do not wish for that to happen to their beloved isles.
These people know from the stories of old that those who rose up against that same direction where mocked and laughed at and even shunned away banished by those in charge only in time to watch it happen and watch the collapse of their worlds and it is through these stories of old that those who remember hearing or reading about these stories are now standing up against those who are blind to the truth.

Will the day come where the isles are plagued with a fashion sense that makes no sense and the world is left barren once again just like countless others before it or will the people of the isles stand up and pray to their gods and leaders to make the choice to preserve the fashion sense and image and culture that they have created over all these countless years.

No one knows the outcome of this saga but based on the stories of old it does not bode well.

And he gave us a bag of keeping in 2005 a spyglass in 2006 a farwalker amulet in 07 then the following years was sculpting wand, transmutation liquid, box of fireworks and in 2011 is when the garden gnome came in and since then its been mostly christmas themed items(except for the saddle sack) and mostly useless things that are just collectables but did not add anything to the game yes

But have you seen evil black light santa?

Also the purely collectable cosmetics started with the release of deli :(

There's a lot of rabbiting on this thread - let me hop in. :)

Let me start by saying you Devs are doing a wonderful job - seeming to me to work harder this year than ever before, and it is appreciated.  Thank you.

It is difficult to think up ideas that are topical, enjoyable to develop, and popular with the majority of paying customers.  Dev work is exhausting at times, but I believe that the majority of the additions to the game have been appreciated by the majority of players.  We have benefitted from regular updates and much new content, and I have noticed past players returning for some of these.

My main concern, and I know others share this, is the apparent move away from craftable items and features that extend game play and give a sense of personal achievement, towards short term or seasonal gifts, which are only used by some players for part of the year, and skins which don't actually add any new functionality.  It sometimes feels to me like the game is just being decorated and dressed up in different clothes.

Most of the suggestions on the forum are not just for decorative items, they are solutions to problems identified by the players.  Whenever we see something new in the game, it is not just a matter of whether we like the look of it or not, but we also ask the question Why was this put in the game?  How does it improve the game? What problems does it solve?

The bunny backpack for example is very nice, but feels a bit like a duplication.  Duplication is not all bad, it can save coding time and give us great new content, but we players can only wear one backpack at a time.  So either the teddy or the bunny goes into storage.  I try to see it as choice and variety, but understandably it upsets a significant number of people if they have no 'choices' to their liking for any given month.  I find it helps to try to see the monthly skin as just a bit of fun (it's not game changing), optional (we don't have to buy something every month).

The bunny ears may offend some people and enchant others.  I think if items like this were better balanced alongside a good supply of new craftable structures, deed assets, weapons, tools, furniture etc, everyone would be so busy crafting they would be more likely to overlook any such 'affront'.

Thanks again Devs - your work is giving us so much pleasure.  I hope the year to come will bring something to appeal to everyone. :)

I think the point is this side of things don't think it's an issue and think we've had similar events in the past that didn't get this much criticism. At the end of the day you don't need to take part and so what if some one is else is wearing something you don't like. That's life. Fair play regarding having say a wooden bunny statue you can craft during the event instead. That also sounds cool. I just don't think bunny ears and easter eggs are such a massive "slippery slope" deal.

No one knows the outcome of this saga but based on the stories of old it does not bode well.

It's actually a common theme, people often get mesmerized by the promise of something better, rebel, and find themselves in a place far worse than before.

What the clown cosmetics promise those people in Wurm? I don't know, I can't really say "you think it will give you this but..." because they don't give anything, it's just an idea that doesn't fit Wurm. Maybe I could say "Wurm will be successful because Aion was succesful and it has bunny ears, but...", however I don't think even the people defending them so much actually believe this. And the part of the player base that can't live without them - like a well known figure says: "Cmon, man...". There might also be a small number of people who think a circus of weird looking things is exciting - but for most people it's annoying and tiresome and actually boring.

Skins in general, but more specifically circus ones, are the hubris of the gaming industry - it's a necessary evil for some games to get their earnings (especially in the f2p model). Wurm doesn't need this as it doesn't earn anything from it. It's literally throwing away the baby and keeping the bathwater.

It gets only downside of breaking aesthetic cohesion which in turn makes the game less appealing to new players especially but existing ones as well. Breaking aesthetic cohesion also sends the message that there is no longer an interest in the game and it's just drifting around.

The fact that some people care this much for those clown cosmetics worries me. In most cases it's just the lack of arguments, I think. There's some person on this thread who was making the claim Wurm is a cartoon game...
