Posted March 17, 2023 (edited) Newbie only starter server with no deeding allowed and ability to leave to go to server choice portal after reaching certain characteristics. No GL-Chat access until they leave the newbie server. Only blue/passive monsters in the server. Very simple starter town with only few useful npcs and no buildings. High skill players or large buildings aren't allowed to stay. It is meant to be mostly empty space with small houses where newbies mess around and experience the sandbox nature of the game. Posted March 17, 2023 For some it would be a useful training ground and safe zone. For others it might feel a bit like a penal colony you can only leave after grinding your characteristics. So it should be optional with the ability to leave at any time. Remember that some existing players make new characters as priests and other alts, so they would need to bypass this. As long as it is possible to bypass a tutorial or newbie area, some new players will also choose to bypass it - perhaps picking the wrong option, or perhaps mistakenly seeking to 'fast track' their game to get to the action. Golden Valley used to be the newbie server. Some people were impatient to leave, but some stayed there permanently and never left.
Posted March 17, 2023 Best part of this game is learning from experienced players. Most people of the spawned in a noob only server would give up on the game.
Posted March 17, 2023 -1, I think Wurm is much better when played in groups and a newbie-only world like Golden Valley once was would only isolate new players from more experienced ones who could help them. Also: no deeding allowed would make it really easy to grief new players, which would be really bad. I do think more ways to get new players to enjoy the game should be added, though - such as a better in-game journal system that helps new players after the tutorial. Posted March 17, 2023 i can tell you from older experiences in the game, that this does not work either...we had newbie areas once, never worked. The problem with newbies is THEIR approach to the game that is mutuated from other games. Actually if the game stays as it is, it's easier for wurm to get more players, instead trying to show the game is faster and easier, and then dump the players into harsh reality after a while.
