Linux client chat fills with "w" when trying to communicate after moving forward in game

Recommended Posts

I'm using the Linux client, running Ubuntu 22.04, and my chat and any menu search bars or text entry bars (e.g. storage transfer amount) fills with "w" after I've been moving forward in game. The text box or chat continues to fill with w, for many minutes after I've stopped moving, making chat or most menu text entry completely impossible. Deleting the "wwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww" just results in more w's filling the text entry. My keyboard key is not sticking, and this does not happen when using any other program on my machine.

I know this is an old thread but for anyone having the same issue.

I ran into same issue just a couple of days ago.

My fix for this was to open  -  Settings > Accessibility > Repeat Keys  <- Turn off

This stopped the client spam, it would fill up a buffer for the keys held down typically WASD and when activated a text box, it would disgorge its buffer. Fun fun!

For anyone else trying to fix this, Halon is talking about the Linux Settings, not the Wurm Online Settings.  Also, on my Ubuntu 20.04.6 LTS machine the menu item was not "Accessibility", but "Universal Access".

Keep in mind that this workaround affects everything on your OS -- you can no longer hold down a key to have it repeat after a delay, so you might want to toggle it back when you leave Wurm.

From my programming days I remember that low-level keyboard access involves "make" and "break" events, and this Wurm bug behaves as though the "break" event gets lost.  The in-game work around is to press and release the spamming key and wait for things to settle down, then backspace though all the spammed keystrokes.

If this is about the Wurm Online client, this should be moved to the correct forum
