PvE Pet Bandaid

Recommended Posts

3 very quick and easy bandaids for PvE pets to make them more useful (and also helps fix unicorns/hellhorses a little).

If you are caring for an animal, any attack targetting that animal hits you instead (you care for it, so you're going to defend it), and when you're not within 10 tiles mobs ignore it.  Can be toggled on/off

When you tame an animal you are caring for, it does not lose tameness naturally over time.

When an animal takes damage, it loses a reduced amount of tameness (100-taming skill/1.2)% loss rate

Not bad ideas, but rather than all attacks being diverted to you, perhaps a % of attacks based on... tame level? Or perhaps just much reduced chance of your pet being targeted by a NPC if you're riding it.

Not keen on the idea of Cared For pets never losing tame levels. Reduced "decay" of tame, sure.

Myself, I'd just like to see pets get a bit tougher in general.

definately this, I accidently attacked my primary horse today when i went to attack an octopuss because of a lag glitch and nearly killed my horse before i managed to 1 exit my morred boat, 2remember to stop leading, and 3 swam far enough away that it stopped my attacks on him. as it was the horse had 1% health that i had to quick make healing covers and bandage with cotton praying that he wouldnt succomb to the wounds. a lead animal should never ever be attackable by yourself regardless of wether you are in a vehicle or riding another horse. we are not allowed to kill lead pigs, goats, buffalo, and cattle that should extend to our horses too >.<

Imho we need a more dedicated healing system for everything and everyone, not just pets.

Atm we just smack on raw/processed cotton or wool, and then slap on some bruised plants as an afterthought. Maybe a prayer if ur lucky.

Bandages, infused bandages, splints, crutches, stitches, alcohol, water/alcohol-based solutions, fat/beeswax-based salves, and etc.

Kordeth, please look at your logs, game mechanics will not allow you to damage an animal while you are leading it.  The scenario described goes in direct opposition to these mechanics, you might want to report the bug so the team can attempt to replicate(I tried but could not damage the horse while it was still actively being led).  You do get "you try to hit" messages but there would have been no contact, until you stopped leading and then your poor horse was fair game for your attack attempts.

that is the combat log

mind you i was lagging through this entire process as i was originally trying to kill an octopuss from my knarr and my screen clicks were not hitting where i was clicking. the point being that i thought i was trying to kill an octopuss and realized i was attacking my horse so i tried to untarget but my lagging click must have ended up clicking in the wrong place. i am not saying this is a bug i am saying that sometimes a lagged click causes issues and being able to heal you mount when trying to recover from this sort of stuff is what i am supporting.

It appears that your logs confirm, while you were leading Emilsouth it was immune to your attacks, the game mechanics were in control at this time.  Thank you for sharing.

Oh god please yes to all of OP's suggestions. There's a reason no one uses tamed animals and it's basically because their survivability is usually around 30 minutes since leaving deed.
