I mean we had that teddy bear skin, the snowman head thing...we have this bucket skin, at this rate any in game immersion will start to go into the pit. It's just a few steps until we start getting "anime fantasy wings" or character "mini skirts". There are hundreds of nice skins we could get based on historical weapons and armours (Winged hussars look great fyi) that don't break immersion. Maybe I am in the minority here but I've seen enough MMO's ruined by this type of immersion breaking, aesthetic murdering approach where we basically remove all sense of cohesive style in favour of some quick $ selling skins. Not much to add, but thought it could stand being said again. There is a point where "fun" begins to tip into "silliness" and in my opinion things have ventured too far into "silliness" territory. One of the things that immediately attracted me to Wurm was the aesthetic. The look and feel that, while "dated", was consistent and concordant with the tone of the game. There was a harmony. I shudder to think what might be next. Sponsored branding? Skins for a certain ubiquitous play brick? <shudder> Minecraft skins? There are so many historical possibilities for weapons, armour, tools, furniture etc skins that would deepen immersion rather than breaking it.

I dwelled on the current skin a bit more a few nights ago. I sorta came to a bit of a weird conclusion. Something like the snowman head exists in a weird spot for me, because people aren't likely to wear them due to it not offering any head protection. It's not actually a helmet. This skin? It's full protection of course, since it's a skin. The bucket would be fine existing as a weird april fools item that exists in the same way as the snowman head. But making it a thing you can just... keep on constantly like your normal helm? Ehhhhhhhhhh

When models are all changed for halloween etc, that is a temporary thing (and I think there was introduced an option to not see the alternate models, possibly). This is a skin on an underlying item that could itself be very useful longterm, so for evermore in this mediaeval high-fantasy setting there is cartoon-goofy looking armour. It seems like some of these skins are aimed at people who are bored with Wurm. Maybe merchants should just sell pig lipstick and be done with it. 😉 Discount temporary skins? Wouldn't be my preference, but would be better than the current situation.

Almost every game has a bucket helm of some sort and now we have one too. This one is the best I have seen

Posted January 20 For me the bucket helm is at least something that is within the boundaries of the game's setting - teddy bear backpack, candy cane sword and such items should have really been a temporary prank only. Some of the PMK designs like HLL are also off from the setting as the graphics are too fine-detailed and brightly coloured to be in line with the age, setting and general assumed possibilities inworld.

Totally agree. Guys please stop adding those ridiculous cosmetics or the game will look like some asian MMO like Aion.

Posted January 21 What's the real harm, how does it bother you if you don't normally use them, you don't buy them, and normally side from people using "such kind" of skins? How... immersion breaking is whole deal for you? If you can't think of actual reason to not like them or how they arent fitting and irritate your play time.. they are maybe not that big of a deal? I agree some pmk art screams - oh sh... we found photoshop or well mspaint alternative and clipart to copy-paste, we cant draw and do things "imaginary fantasy medieval" themed, but look at this copy-paste and swirls! The harm is a loss of cohesive aesthetic. The harm can be explained by an example such as this one : What's the harm? People see gimmicky skins , costumes , cutesy stuff that totally ruin what's supposed to be a more realistic fantasy sandbox game and think "Oh...another one of those games. Yeah , pass." The real annoyance I have in this situation is people failing to see that there's a progression to this descent into a "fashion show game". It starts out with innocent stuff like teddy bears, snowmen skins, bucket heads, candy cane skins. then 50 skins later you get female characters sporting oversexualised breastplates with mini skirts and chainmail stockings for a reason. Part of any gaming experience is immersion. If you destroy immersion you kinda kill roughly 50% of the gameplay right there. You don't really feel like a blacksmith doing chores around the deed when you see someone as I described above riding past your forge and you realise you're just in another copy paste MMO that solely exists to sell skins now, gameplay and immersion be damned. This type of outcome doesn't happen overnight, the progression is slow, 1 skin a month, maybe another added with certain events such as halloween or xmas, then suddenly you see people wearing clown suits on high heels bashing trolls with a carnival hammer and it's no longer Wurm, it's just a typical cash grab skin selling korean / asian MMO. I really don't know how to articulate this better...the harm is real even if it's difficult to quantify. You don't need to be an arts major or hold a phd in graphic design to understand that consciously or subconsciously our brain does appreciate aesthetics and how things look and fit together. Do we really need to lose 100-200 players then ask why those players left? Even if on top of that there's no feedback mechanic to ask quitting players why they left, but I am gonna bet my bank account quite a few will be influenced by how wurm looks and "feels". Posted January 21 Realistic is a strong word.. when "wogic" slaps you in the face QUITE OFTEN and that never/rarely/ gets addressed. There are few convenience middle grounds where it's perfectly fine.. and it works in player's favor(think about drinking salty water and alternative to go build 2000 wells on shore to fix a thirst), but whenever wogic just beats the .. our of you and you can't report it as bug.. and it's fully qualified wogic content and as intended and wont be improved.. that's far more harmful.. I just learned to ignore it to not rage and lose nerves over it. Year of QoLs though... maybe we'll lose some good portion of daily wogic intake. I am not a fan of wurm's dog skin(somehow seems off compared to other creatures.. it's like we have mythical w/e kind of creatures.. even the wild cat is somewhat wild.. not a domestic purr which makes is ok vs the dog; snowman is totally off from other wurm art; candy canes were odd(for one.. they are only item of such goofy wacky theme...) * here I'd like to specify... everything holiday-themed for me is ######, it's great for the game and designers, as you can go completely nuts and do anything out of the normal rules, but that's totally off content once the season/holiday/ is over, and here is the problem I see.. why bother.. besides for the gain of the collective... decorating with the last holiday decorations.. will be great for next winters and xmas and new-year week/s, but I find them totally off content to see any other time of the year, yet.. since we're short on some decorations... players will be likely using these as premium rare content to show off with.. yikes; only way to solve it is.. to "mock" that .. and come up with more/better/ alternative.. and extend the art decorations.. so even biggest fans of these.. can just say hell-no, I'll decorate with this alternative.. and keep these season-themed items for their special time; we'll still laugh at decorations off-season.. but at least the use will be lower and lower(IMO) I could see immersion breaking bit.. one example is the outrage when devs replaced wolves with worg models on pve... wolves are quite ok... worgs.. are quite uglier.. and other bit was the lack of death animation, unsure if we had normal wolf dead body.. but alive it was a worg model.. and that wasn't halloween.. it was some patch making it work that way.. and seemed permanent and random decision. Immersion.. idk.. maybe some out there want to be in clown suits on high-heels and banging hot iron with toy-hammers to do blacksmithing, that's probably an option in cyberpunk, if not.. they are missing on a hype niche. Variety should be a thing imo, more places to explore than own world.. but maybe as timed events.. one week every 1-2 months or something seasonal. The game lacks any reason to gather up and play together, and one strong bit about wurm is finding players to interact with, you can only make so many nails, planks and bricks.. before you go back to scam-citizen or some other bloat. I barely play lately and find myself grinding random useless skill/s, not optimizing for gain or w/e.. just giving myself something to do while chatting ingame. Some skills and return from them makes no sense.. gathering skills and high skill works against you with rerolling action for ql outcomes.. ql 90 player can overall get better results than 99 skilled; got 99 stone cutting.. I can not make a single ql100 whetstone if I dont have imbue but 50 skilled player or less can do it 99.9999999% of the time.. ok... realistic.. bullsh.. mechanic imo.. that's where wogic and rewarding for skill just slaps you and reports for this exist... but unaddressed; rune-creation.. any priest/follower can do better than 99 skilled player for the skills involved... where QL of the rune material matters more than the player skill.. so what.. I'm a master this.. and the action falls in that skill, who cares.. lets use hyper low chance anyway and ignore all benefits from skill.. o k... wogic and planning/testing.. "good experience" right there. I can't care less if somebody plays like a clown or have disgustingly ugly color scheme for it's worn gear or decorations because I have 0 reason to travel to places, we have no mechanic to "force" you to visit or explore, you do that on your own, same with player interaction.. takes a sentence to PM somebody and say.. that's off/creepy/ugly or w/e.. freedom of speech, it's a bummer action.. but.. if it really bothers you.. you could share it always. monthly skin.. I think skins/"new items" just get too slowly into the game.. and mostly that's literally only the 4.5k/was it/ loyalty points skins... rarely new mechanic and actual new item. I find players to be annoyed way more from the fact they don't like this months skin.. and have to wait another month.. to maybe like and use next one.. and whole waiting is what they hate. If that is really so.. idk, not my job to figure what's happening, it's just an observation.. One other issue is.. old skins are never present to buy again, the game needs a way to return old skins.. maybe rotate or some other sketchy and annoying wogical, terrible for monetization and pointless from marketing point mechanic... The game in general keeps giving the vibe to be monetizing badly, where all it takes is new content to get people to unwrap their coin purses and throw coin at the monitors/or virtually swipe with paypal, etc/, just get old skins into a new, better shop. Probably doesn't take much to return old trader view and pop all possible skins or w/e kind of items.. maybe add search, or categories somehow, button, checkbox or w/e... based on needs.. and have a simple list of items, some hint to right click and PREVIEW... or button for preview of the item. SIMPLE THINGS... you want to see what you're buying... bonus time.. add coloring option so you could customize and play around with the item from the start, see something you like.. customize it.. and still buy the blank item.. but allow the players to see what they are buying and add the extra effort to provide convenience for the process, there must be a marketing law for all this. Old skins just need to return in some shop, which doesn't prevent possible return as loot from treasure chests or w/e other mechanics. Give players option to buy something with silver.. offer same item to be bought a bit cheaper(could be time limited thing or not at all) with direct cash(real life money, not silver) payment also, this directly adds new money into company's budget, while it doesn't add or remove any existing silver/gold; while using silver is great.. and the need for it, hinting further investment should always be advertised. I'm not talking about adding huge banner - you're not premium - buy this now, only xx.xx euro, huge, neon sign flashing on screen or to advertise new items in some intrusive way.. but lets say.. adding new skin or several into the game could be worth adding ingame mail or reusing helper system to get a message about such content, just change icon's color.. provide fun content that's worth noticing and checking and this wont be intrusive or hated; worst care HUD element could be disabled. One of first things which seemed like very promising parts of the game for me was the helper UI.. hinting about hunger/thirst/stealing/drowning.. things no other 'friend' will share with you from the very start. tl;dr, there's no tldr

Posted January 24 I've been playing Mortal Online 2 recently. The devs there are dedicated to not putting "funny costumes" in the game and it looks very good. Even though they use a lot of store assets. On 1/21/2023 at 1:51 PM, elentari said: What's the harm? In addition to that a lot of people who say they are not bothered by lack of aesthetic cohesion or immersion actually just loose interest in the game and stop playing as the game is "too boring". I saw this happen even in LotRO, where the store assets are actually cohesive with the game's aesthetic but some of them are just too over the top (armor and gear that is much too fancy looking). Funny clowny costumes give a really cheap vibe to the game. When people mass up for a pve event you will end up seeing a bunch of clowns wearing buckets, teddy bears, santa hats and lollipops. This is not an OK approach for a game with monthly subscription. I know it doesn't have an actual dreaded cash shop, but the more reason to not put this nonsense in the game. The reason all the clown cosmetics exist in other MMOs is to lure some people to get the from the store with real money. What does WO gain from them in it's situation? Nothing, just loses. I apologise if this sounds harsh, but it's only because the game actually has good art and aesthetics overall. If it didn't it wouldn't bother me as anything graphical wouldn't matter on it. On 1/22/2023 at 7:33 AM, Archaed said: dang bukkits ruinin mah game I've always praised the devs for the good work they been doing and rightly so. But this is a small matter that I think brings too much harm for 0 benefit. If they made a winged great helm or a ghilded great helm that would have still served the purpose of a monthly cosmetic with no harm to the game's aesthetic. And more than that I dare say it would have been a quick win: a variation of the already existing great helm model with wings on it, maybe the artist could have found something already made to start with. Also you probably play this game constantly for many years. You don't have a first impression of the game when you play like new players would. I sometimes showed the game to friends and got stuff like "lol why is he wearing pumpkins on the shoulders?" X_X.
Posted January 24 put a checkbox in settings.... "Strict legacy model vibe" [On / Off] or whatever... and go crazy from there... or go crazy but keep things within the lore... if there's a bucket.. make it timed effect.. maybe part of yellow potion or different timed effects.... cauldron helmet - fine... but it lasts for 10minutes or w/e.. or a day.. and it's creature drop.. etc.. is any of that a solution to keep everybody happy? Bottom line.. it's a game.. and wurm have one of the wildest irritated communities when it comes to changes that do not really at all concern them(does the helmet skin bother me? no.. if I see a friend wearing one, would I unfriend it.. probably..) It's that simple.. it's only a reason to make new friends (probably joking... but idk.. need to see a few goofing players with such thing and decide) I want to see new content... but all we see is skins.. skins skins.. no new recipes, nothing new to learn, nothing new to gain as drop or knowledge over time or by doing content, also nothing new to buy and learn a recipe or way to research or farm over time.. closest thing to last thing is archaeology statues.. but we can't even improve the event statues, only regular ones, huh.. Posted January 24 By the way.. are there any news about meditation rework, currently it's in far worse state than ever before.. while before it allowed to start using sb only last few seconds for rng result and wait 5 times 30min.. then switch to 3h delays.. and try one's "luck" each time.. now it costs 2minutes of sleep bonus and a bit over that.. for the same gamble.. it's a far bigger investment lottery and outcomes are just as random, often no skill-gain at all for 2minutes of sleep bonus wasted per try.
