Not sure this has been mentioned before, but I think having some kind of astrology skill and tools to go with it would be pretty cool, i do love seeing the planets in Wurm...

i seem to remember a topic about using dioptras for navigation by using the heavenly bodies but didnt see anything about astrology which would be a cool way to while away the time by using ones dioptra and a spyglass to make edugated guessed about potential eclipses and maybe even as a way to predict upcoming events like rift locations or uniques being spawned based upon alignments of the heavenly bodies. i also think it could work for predicting what gods were getting close to full power ie ( after examining the alignment of the moons and stars you note the influenece of Fo is growing to full potential and soon a ritual may be possible) or something similar

You mean "astronomy", I suppose?

I agree, sounds like a neat idea. Put stars in the sky and maybe have a sextant in the game to navigate. I think there is alot of things they could do with planets in the game, nice idea.

I believe the surface of the map is too small to navigate using a sextant. The dioptra can be used in navigation however. From the Wurmpedia:

Spoiler

Navigation

Activate the dioptra and right-click any of Wurm's moons or Sol and select Use. Your general geographical location will be displayed in the event window.
You carefully place the dioptra on its tripod in front of you.
You make sure the dioptra is level.
You line up the dioptra with <moon>.
You work out you are in the <location> regions.
You pack up the dioptra.

I once saw another planet close to Valrei but further away, like a dot but standing out. It was also kind of the same blueish hue. After careful astronomical analysis turned out to be just something on my screen : >

Using the dioptra would work I guess, never knew you could use it that way, never tried other than making bridges.

Those of you interested in Wurm Astronomy may want to look at previous approaches to explore the celestial mechanics of Wurm:

All these sources are pretty old, and a lot may have changed since the introduction of the new skybox. So, there is plenty of room for new astronomical research!

Using a sextant could be to get to specific parts of other islands when you sail to them. Like, high levels in astronomy/astrology let's you specif the region to land when crossing servers.

While I can see the fun in astronomy in Wurm, I fail to see any actual use for astrology. We already have religion and meditation.

But hey, astrology is very complex and based on when a person was born.
I guess writing up the code for something like that would be in par with for example the cooking update.

What specific use would the OP suggest?
Is that worth developers time?
Personally I feel that would be a total waste of time.

In case anyone is still uncertain about the difference between Astronomy and Astrology, here is the definition from Merriam-Webster:

Maybe we can just leave it at something interesting to observe. Maybe they can add easter eggs, or eventd/riddles or something that require observations.
