How much would you use the treasure hunt mechanic?

  1. 1. As the treasure hunt mechanic stands - server time 4 June 2022, 1200 - how much would you use it?

    • Every time I get a map/clue
      50
    • Most of the time, unless I am too busy or the ql is too low to bother
      24
    • Occasionally, if I have nothing else on and the ql is high enough to justify it
      30
    • Rarely
      17
    • Never
      18

Never use it other than sell all the caskets I get.

Why?

1. It feels too much like a gambling loot crate system to me. I'm all about working hard and know exactly what the outcome will be. At every step this treasure map system is asking "How lucky are you!"

2. The system uses player skills. You as a player have to know where stuff is at (towers, colossus, archeology sites, etc....)  or have the ability to decipher the maps. I like character skill base things.

3. The main loot I want from this is skill imbue-potions and a supreme+ bone. I'm certain the drop rates for those things are ridiculously small. The upkeep tokens and maybe those special containers might be nice. But this all plays into #1.

Not a very developed char here, so for me it would be important not to need high FS and great equipment.

Maybe i can lure stuff away☺️

I don't know... I'm kind of disappointed that just getting the maps is based on random chance while essentially grinding -- something I don't do unless I need something done.  I set out tasks and do those, I don't grind anything without a purpose, if I can help it.  I don't grind skills, skills come to me because I happen to need to do a thing a lot  Some are big and require a lot of work, others are more simple, especially now that my house is done.  I do get rare rolls once in a blue moon while doing my daily tasks --- but it's rare and if there is only a chance of getting a map, I'm not likely to see one for a long time.  I do not see this system as promoting exploration at all, anyway.  Finding a treasure isn't exploration.  Exploration would be wandering to see or find certain things.  What I originally envisioned was something you could find while out exploring to make it even more worth the time spent, or a skill gain or something that make the urge to go out and explore count toward something in the game.  As far as I'm concerned treasure maps are a footnote on Archaeology.  It's fine, but not something I'll probably get to do much, and I'm an actual explorer.

Also, I don't like if you have to fight mobs for the treasure.  I'm not much of a fighter.  Maybe I just don't play Wurm like most people, though. 😕

I could participate more often. But I have a problem seeing green on green. And I have to select pieces in paint.net and, with hellish efforts, look for the right place on the map. I already have 3 cards hanging in the air. If the topology doesn't match, most of the time I can't decipher the map.

I have mined silver for many hours without getting any maps.

I would rather get the maps by doing something more fun. Like exploring.

i love it, it encourages people to spend more time offdeed getting to know their neighborhood, and encourages people to interact with the people on their server

it REALLY makes me want to go build a few random guard towers in middle of xanadu deep in forests or on top of mtns *gives 2 thumbs up*

so far got 11 maps...

after ~20k+ digging, 10k+ mining, near 10k farming, probably over that, after some time you just do what you do and ignore the content if it's not interesting to do it, it either happens or it doesn't.. along with rarity window bind and the issues coming from it.. unless you are bot and time your actions.. it's unlikely to get good payday compared to 'neo'-setup with alts and spamming actions every x seconds...

happy "gaming", time your actions.. be pro...

--edit

the other thing.. most maps are ridiculous ql.. all rare for me only 3 are above 29ql - 37, 51, 58, other 8 were ql2/6/11/16/20.. the so far located and looted can be seen here

not a single supreme or high ql so far.. FeelsBadMan

Well said!!!  I tried doing Archelogy to get a map I got one and it was painful to find the right tower for the 2nd clue...I though these maps would be more fun but without knowing "where you are" on the map makes it hard and it's difficult to find the right spot (my opinion which I know alot will disagree with anyways)

If you still struggle send me the pictures of the clue and the hints and i will try help you find the locations of them

As for me when I am on celebration i do every single map i get my hands onto the sleep powders alone make it worth my time but on chaos i trade them away to others who want to do them on chaos in return for their maps on cele but i myself love it as it gets me out hunting more then once a few months for meat but now its once a week for treasure map hunting and just hunting it breaks up my grind and it is a welcome addition to the game, I currently have another 12 maps planned to do for the upcoming weekend(didn't do any last weekend) hoping to get more.

The rewards could be a bit nicer with less trash in them as right now they seem like they just drop a lot of items that clutter the inventory(individual pieces of leather for example) but honestly it is a great start.

correct maps are impossible to read. what the hell are those black area's ? Are contours actually understood by the person who draws the maps  or just draw a random squiggle line  tbf to you guys releasing a map with no key is pretty lame

The black area's are smudges and should be ignored

The topographical lines are correct. They can look different because they are a smaller scale on the clue-map then the map dump. I'd guess on the map dump it's around 250-dirts per a line of elevational change. Well on the clue maps I'd guess it's 50 or 100-dirts elevational change per a line. This finer detail may show topography lines that aren't on the map dumps. The game draws maps by fetching live data of an area and then obscuring it. I would say it obscures it too much. Wurm has no problem with use looking up tower/shrines/collosus/archeology dead-deed location on community map. I don't see it hurting to give players the option to use the standard maps dump. keep using obscured but let players switch to the un-obscure if they want too.

That's it in a nutshell, really.  It isn't exploration, doesn't reward exploration, and those who explore a lot probably won't wind up doing it.

Ha!
I have already gotten the Restorer and Investigator titles as an Archaeologist. Digging up items with 3 runes is super fun! Feelin' like Indiana Jones out here.

Haven't gotten a new map in a couple of months despite mining, fishing and praying on my alt. So how often would I use this content? Assuming I ever get access to it of course.

And no, not a fan of buying maps, it's RNG on top of RNG, on top of some more RNG , on top of more casino RNG...yeah, content.... ( makes contemptuous gestures at the whole system )

THIS, I do not know what happened, but just suddenly I stopped getting maps on my rolls on all associated activities. I have only found 1 treasure map since last year.

I noticed this myself. I was getting maps pretty regularly up until around Christmas, then nothing at all until the last update. I was getting MOI's at basically the same rate, but no maps.

I found two this last weekend, so hopefully it's been "un-nerfed".

Not sure, but I am leaning towards either a rarity bug now or a stealth nerf to the system , or maybe the entire system was rework to prevent old "exploits" with people using the rarity spamming system maybe. In any case, rarity now is...well more than rare. I am getting random rare cherries as I pick em but no MOI's on praying, farming, mining for a while now.

I always do the maps i get, doesn't really matter is its ql 2 or ql 97, if it's rare or supreme. Some times i'll go a few weeks without getting a single map, other times i seem to get multiple in a couple of weeks. Personally i like the clues, even the seemingly near impossible clues.

It isn't even required to do archaeology, it just shows the location of nearby disbanded deeds. You can complete it like any other map clue by referencing it with the map dump.

At worst, it's a noob trap to get people thinking they need to do archaeology to find the casket, when in reality it's just a map clue with different colours and annotations.

I'm currently saving up my maps while working on projects. I'm going to try them in the future. So I've refrained from voting since I don't yet have a feel for the mechanic.
