Looks like it's still wrong in the launcher - in-game settings should be fixed.

The only option I get in game is Light or Dark. I am running the linux client if that matters.

Correct, the old themes don't work with the new UI renderer at all.

What is this ironwood theme then? It was supposed to be the old theme.

 

Honestly I don't understand why we're being forced to switch over. I understand none of the new features are going to be added to the old client but I see that a benefit not a detriment. There isn't a single feature in the new client that actually adds anything to the game for me.

 

Leave it in and don't update it. If eventually you add a feature worth the hassle of switching I'll switch but I'm not holding my breath.

Development time is still required to keep the old UI client available for each update. Not updating it at all means the client will stop working completely, and outside of that will mean every feature that has anything new in the client will not be available for people using that client (including everything in the coming update). Keeping it around and updated isn't feasible in the long term due to the doubled development time needed, unfortunately.

That's the best new feature you could ever add for me, and many others, but apparently not enough of us to matter.

The ironwood theme is a theme from the old UI, it won't be showing as an option on the Test client when it next updates.

no, light and dark are the themes on the new UI, ironwood, classic and classic lights are the old themes ironwood was the newest theme for the old ui, on the old ui only.

New UI Themes are kinda lacklustre IMO. Light or dark? Really? Those are the options we'll have? Going to miss Ironwood.

Something very wrong with the macOS version of the test client, character is stuck stiff with their arms outstretched. This happens with all the preset graphic settings, as well as my original custom ones.

at 100% UI scale (possibly others, this doesn't happen at 90%) the windows cannot go flush with the bottom of the screen, leaving a single pixel gap

i tried the test client and i get the same problem, even tried spawning a horse to fight it, the arms stayed like that.

I know this isn't a client issue, so I'm really sorry for going a bit off-topic:
- Are you going to include a minimalistic GUI in the new client?

I understand that the new client won't work with the "Old UI", but I'd love to see a new version equivalent to it in terms of looks.

 

I play using the classic theme, due to how unintrusive and unassuming the GUI elements are. I really appreciate the straight edges and the amount of information presented in plain text. The smaller total space taken up by the elements (when compared to the other themes) also factors into my choice of it as preferred GUI.

I am not at all a fan of the elements with transparent overlays that have an invisible hitbox for dragging and so on (i.e. the manila folder-esque windows). Iconographic representations of information is also something that I have turned off to a large extent.

 

 

I'd also appreciate it if the people reading this that don't want this kind of GUI could refrain from taking the thread further off-topic - I am not asking for your preferred GUI to be removed or altered, so there is no need to respond to my message telling me how wrong I am.

Some options still do not update until a client restart. In this case your logs show you started with animations turned off, so I'm guessing you started with Custom... then flipped to the others. Animations is one of those settings that won't change until a restart.

 

I'll see what I can do to make that editable while the client is running, but for now either start with a graphics profile selected from the launcher, or turn animations in in your custom settings.

There won't be one in the immediate future, but we realise there is a demand for it so it is on the cards for later. The issue with quickly whipping one up that changes the sizes for all of the window elements in the game is all of the current sizes are coded specifically for the current themes, so it's a fair amount of work to go back through everything and either make it dynamic or make it fit another theme.

 

For what it's worth, the invisible hitbox on windows was just a sizing bug in the client and has been fixed on test now.

The different setting were set in the launcher, and saved. So, I wouldn't expect that to be the problem. But in any case starting the client this morning, the preset was left set to 'Max' after yesterday's testing, I am still seeing the same outstretched arms, and standing bolt upright in the horse while riding.

 

Doing a little more testing.

 

Starting from a setting profile that works, saving a copy and checking all is well when using that. Changing the graphics profile to 'Maximum'. Launching the client I get the same as yesterday, with the outstretched arms. Restarting the client, and switching back to custom, I see that setting have not been preserved 'Animation Quality' is now set to 'none' rather than original 'High'.

 

Manually setting 'Animation Quality' back to 'High' fixes the problem, so looks as if there is a problem in launcher - either in what is in the preset settings, or in the saving process.

Thanks for fixing those things. The 16x16 design is basically the simplified design that Aeris is asking about. I'm making some wrong assumptions about GUI design. I just want something that is minimalistic or has no stylized design.

 

Apparently, the fight window popping back up after it's been disabled with tools isn't part of this fix. If I disable the "Fight window" with Hud Settings, it should stay off. It pops back up every time combat is initiated.

Updated the test client with changes that should fix some of the options not loading properly - if you wouldn't mind can you check the issues you were having again?

I've gone back through the old code and client and this seems to be how it has always worked. I've added a new option under User Interface that will override that and keep it hidden if the fight window is disabled.
