Posted February 5, 2022 Hello Could someone please see if I can change something to make Wurm launch? It is a new laptop and I have java installed. Every time I try to launch the game, before I even move to the screen where you enter your username and password, I get an error with the following details: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> Posted February 5, 2022 That's not an error, that is literally the Java web start file. Since jnlp files are discontinued in current versions of Java you won't get far. That's why the launcher exists as a standalone download, bundled with a Java that still works. Use that one.
Posted February 5, 2022 In other words, download Wurm Online from the web page and install it rather than trying to click and run it from there. Click the 'Play' option on the www.wurmonline.com homepage and it'll give you the options to download the version that suits your system best there. ( Wurm Online downloads ). (In other words, if you're using Windows you click and download either Wurmsetup64.exe or Wurmsetup32.exe from the options there. No need to download Java manually if you're using Windows.) Posted February 6, 2022 I did that but when I click to start Wurm it pops up a command box "Press any key to continue" and when you press a key everything disappears and nothing happens. Hence I tried with the old bat file and client which then also does not work as mentioned above.
Posted February 6, 2022 What you are describing does not match with anything the Wurm Launcher does. What, exactly, have you done to install Wurm?
Posted February 6, 2022 I went to the website, clicked Play, and downloaded the correct launcher from the website. It installed the game plus Java runtime automatically. Afterwards I clicked the shortcut and it then opens a black command window that says "click any key to continue" and then I click a key, after which the screen disappears and nothing happens. I noticed someone else on the forums had a similar type issue but am not sure whether it is something in the computer, in the firewall, with the web browser used to download or what exactly. Any help much appreciated since I can't access the game at the moment.
Posted February 6, 2022 Here this person seems to describe something similar.
Posted February 6, 2022 That post has some absolute cretin recommend running as administrator, so you can safely discard anything they say. Can you confirm that you downloaded and ran https://client.wurmonline.com/client/WurmSetup64.exe , as a normal user, not as admin? Go into "%localappdata%\Programs\Wurm Online\" (you can use this path straight in the explorer address field), do you see any hs_err*.log files? Try launching WurmLauncher64.exe directly; what happens? Attach a screenshot of what happens.
