Was there a recent event that dropped rare coins on the map?

Recommended Posts

I was out and about exploring Desertion these past few days and one thing I found which was bizzare were 3 rare silver coins in the wild on the same day. Not through foraging or killing. Just found them on the ground. They weren't named.

They weren't near deeds or abandoned deeds, just out in the wild, one near bushes, one near a dragon and another one close to a desert. There were no player bodies there that could indicate someone died recently and dropped his money.

Was there any event this past year that randomly dropped coins on the map?

This must be the brand new incentive scheme to get us all to play on Epic - lets grab a portal and go everyone! :)

But seriously, on Freedom they sometimes do a New Year event with sparkling white beams (a bit like the rift beacon) to indicate where silver coins are randomly dropped for players to find.  Not sure if they did it again this year.  I would guess it's something like that.

From a death pile I expect.

I'd be inclined to agree with this explanation, it's entirely plausible a corpse and all belongings rotted away leaving only the coins.  Given desertion's population woes, easily the most likely explanation.

What's hilarious is I was just talking about my trip to Epic years ago where I had about 3 silver on me and died in the middle of nowhere. I gave up and went back to Freedom and left the coins behind.

I doubt they're the same ones as this was so many years ago, before I was a developer, but the irony is real.

It’s not the first time I’ve come across a lonely death pile in the middle of nowhere, with half decayed armour, weapons and even rare coins. I must admit I’ve never come across as much as this in one death pile, but it’s not out of the realms of possibility. Rare coins suggest someone was very lucky with foraging or hunting, then very unfortunate with a unique or high end valrei mob. My most notable find was a death pile at the bottom of a terraforming event trench where someone got stuck, and probably mobbed by spiders, that had 1 silver and some coppers, but non-rare.

I usually ask around, but in many cases it could have been months, or years since the incident, if nothing else was there then it could have been a long, long time and everything else had decayed.

Found one just laying on the ground on Indy the other day. It wasn't rare, so doubt it came from foraging.

Another man's trash is another man's....

But i doubt it... i found them in 3 different locations. Probably from a past Xmas thing that randomly dropped coins everywhere. Mind you I recently found one in the ocean as well.

I think this is the case. I saw these lights briefly at New Years, and have since found numerous rare silver coins on the ground on Epic.

In this year, I have found like 3 silver coins, just lying on the ground, on Desertion.

But I do not roam much these days, couse I need to diggy diggy holes.

And choppy choppy rocks.

And pavy pavy roads.
