Regarding the Husbandry Update

Recommended Posts

So to start off i am just a small deed owner with a small farm, I spend most of time in a cave or bashing wild stuff in the north of Deliverance.

I breed and farm stuff about twice a day as a means of not having to bother much with others or just enjoying the experience. Yet this update has caused a lot of problems for my way of living.

For a start i started the update with 17 5S horse's with about 80 Trait points, bred over a few years of hard effort and patients. Currently i am only at 5 horses left. With my breeding pairs seemingly dying first. (With 50 AH on a dedicated Lib priest)

I did some research and some small sized testing (for the details see the spoilers). The results pretty much make me want to kill all my animals and just not bother anymore. With what feels like a hard cap to trait points, The shorter lifespan of my horses and all else just making it a pain.

Spoiler

Deed animals ratio: 15,2 (maintained by finding random animals in the wild or killing them for Bloodthrist)

Breeders:

First Pair

5S White Male, Cared for 80 Trait points Venerable

5S White Female, Cared for 80 Traits points Aged

Second Pair

5S Black Male, Not Cared for 80 Trait points Venerable

5S Black Female, Cared for 80 Traits points Venerable

Third Pair

5S Black Male, Not Cared for 80 Trait points Venerable

5S Black Female, Not Cared for 80 Traits points Venerable

Offspring:

First Round:

AH: 45

First Pair, Male Piebald Pinto, 35 Trait points

Second Pair, Female White , 30 Trait points

Third Pair, Male Black, 40 Trait points

Second Round:

AH: 47

First Pair, Male White, 40 Trait points

Second Pair, Male Black, 30 Trait points

Third Pair, Miscarriage, Mother died, tried to find new partner father died a week later before new partner was found.

Third Round:

AH: 48

First Pair, Miscarriage, Mother died, Father still alive

Second Pair, Male Black, 40 Trait points

Third Pair, R.I.P.

Authors note:

All breeding animals were groomed twice a day, checked for food and kept in there separate pens of 2x1 in the outside with grass tiles.

Because i like this game i wish to ask that some rules around breeding be loosend a little to at least make it friendlier to people of lower skill or with less time.

The main thing that blocks most of it for me at least appears to be the point limit with trait points. As it seems to be directly linked to your AH skill. Which for anyone who is not a dedicated breeding is a nightmare.

Lastly i want to ask if anyone else has noticed the increase in Miscarriages, before i only recall having one about a fat year ago. Since the update i had about 4 which seems like a  horrendously dumb frequency for that to occur.

While this is just my experience with it i am very curious what others have experienced. As i have seen little other people talk about it besides some of the people i play with.

Not a lot of people are talking that specifically, probably because you need 55 AH to get all 4 speed traits and 55 AH to get the three useful draft traits, meaning that it's still possible to get close to top results at 55 AH. That still makes AH unique that way unlike most other skills where top results come from a considerably higher skill level.

And then there's also considerably bigger and worse issues that people would much rather talk about that most people would much rather the devs prioritized and spent their time balancing, such as the horrendous RNG.

Miscarriage and mother dying, even cared for, is the reason i don't breed vanilla 5 speeds no more. I could swear it was done deliberately  to wipe off old vanilla horses by the devs.

To me i am genuinely starting to wonder if don''t want like 2 to 4 glue horses to pull a wagon or ship transporter and beyond that just live on foot at this point.
Like what is the point of having a horse if it just keeps dying faster then i can breed them?

Been breeding old 5s horses like crazy on my deed since the update haven't had even one miscarriage. Ofc I keep an eye on my deed ratio all the time

What has your experience besides the miscarriage been then@kochinac?

I do not know what your AH is, but for me the trait points have been nothing but frustration.

For the animal to deed ratio i have been keeping an eye on it and it has been at 15+ but just barely because of the frequent deaths.

Curently my AH is 79, been slowly pushing it from 50 since update... Other then miscarigies update is badly though frustration yeah, i still want few draft skills on my horses for riding more than acustomed to water. System where traits are locked in categories is double sharped blade. I been trying to get bisons, horses, hell horses, sheeps and donkey(have no idea why i guess) and must say i'm having quite mediocre success in getting what i find optimal in animal. i wish there would a way to direct towards desired traits more easily. for example, if i have horse with 3 speed traits and horse with desirable draft traits i would expect offspring to have 3 speed traits and 2 draft trais(or any random combination of those two cattegories) if i have enough points to support slots,  but instead i get useless speed trait and random misc trait, if i wanted misc trait i would breed it with horse that has misc trait ffs. So my biggest problem is popping random traits to fill space instead of traits i'm aiming for

Keeping deed ratio at just barely 15+ is a bit dangerous. Someone could show up with a cart and enter your deed and push it just below 15. Or even a wagon.

or god forbid, a wagon with a few lead animals. Deed ratio is all animals on your deed, no matter who owns them.

If you want to live on the edge, that's your choice. I wouldn't go on forums making forum posts mentioning miscarriages if I was living on the edge like this, personally.

So even at higher skill you still do not get what you want? Ok that must be horrendously frustrating knowing that you actually have the ability to get it as well.

For a start no one but me has access to the animals, secondly i had it at a solid 18+ before the update. I can only keep it at 15ish as a result of all the deaths.(which includes me going out and collecting what ever i can find btw) Which is why i stopped breeding entirely at this point and started this topic. On top of that most horses i lost so far were bred up from a line that i have kept alive for over 5 years now. I am not in the mood to see it die out because an update made an error in the numbers somewhere.

It sounds like you're trying for a low tile-to-creature ratio, which is on the face of it a terrible idea. I've had no miscarriages with a ratio of 80. Perhaps your deed is just too crowded
