Hit Direction Indicator Circle Disabled in settings, but still showing in combat

Windowed Resizable Live client.  NO changes made to settings after logging on.

 

The Show Hit direction Indicator setting in my UI section of Settings, is currently disabled. (No tick)

 

However, a partial red direction circle still appears when mobs are behind me and hitting me .

 

I had a spider and scorpion behind me today and the partial red circle appeared, with the arrow pointing down the screen, and to the right.

 

[12:59:09] Adolescent scorpion claws you hard in the chest and irritates it.

 

The partial circle seems to be quite high up on the screen, and looks as though I would probably not be able to see the arrow indicator on the screen if the mob was in front of me.
