On death, lose 1/3 as much skill

I'm sure this has been brought up before, but the way it works now, you lose "x" amount of skill on death, then you earn it back at 3 times the normal skill gain rate.  What is the purpose for that?  Why not just lose "x"/3 skill on death and then earn it back at the normal rate?  Wouldn't that have been much easier for the server to process?  Seems unnecessarily complicated the way it is now.

 

Wait... when things make zero sense, it must be for pvp?

I want to clarify: You don't lose skill when dying in PvP - only fight skill and body strength. So it's not for PvP.

can't really be x/3 because it's not a linear gain, imagine someone with 100 in a skill looses 0.25 but has the 3x bonus all the way back to 100, but if that person looses say 0.08 but gets no bonus then it might take him longer time overall to get back to 100

i have a hard -1 on this... i'd rather see it go the other direction and have dying removed 10x more skill and 10x more skills to encourage people to not die...
