Posted September 9, 2022 Some questions: Is it true the community map dump (terrain) get updated on the website once a year? If the website terrain website dumpy get updated once a year, why is that? How does the process to dump the data and update the website look like? Is it alot of manual labor involved? Do the people of this project have insight to system automation? Like, continous development, devops or any other automation solution? I find it sad the beautiful community map doesn't get updated with terrain data more often 😢 24 hours updates would be awesome and probably not impossible. As the name says, community maps are made by players. They are based on the only map dump version that is available: the "official map dumps", as provided by the game developers. Those map dumps are updated annually, usually around January or February. Thus, the makers and managers of our community maps don't have any influence on the update frequency of the map dumps; we must take what we get. You are welcome to use the "Suggestions" area of the forums to address your request. Let's say someone who hasn't played wurm for a while would like to see if there have been any changes to the world the player used to live in. Posted September 15, 2022 If I remember correctly it was really resource intensive to create these map dumps on server side. So that might be one reason they are not created more often. One reason is that the maps have to be combed through by human eyes prior to release to weed out dodgy QR codes or offensive symbols or writing that players might have made on the terrain. Another thing to consider is there's an upcoming cartography update that will allow players to make their own up-to-date maps of the world. So I honestly don't see dumps becoming any more frequent.
