Can you ID this alpha/beta map?

Recommended Posts

This was a broken link but I was able to get the image using the way back machine. It is described as "one of the first maps" going back to either alpha or beta. I'm looking for the name of the island, if it had one...? Any OG Wurmians know the name?

All that the maps had back then during alpha times where just "alpha 1" and so on none of the servers lasted for long enough to really consider giving them a name(weekly or monthly needed wipes)

My guess its 1 of the earliest maps when grass had its weird tint vs what it does now anyway manny is the one who added it to the wiki on 03:41, 5 April 2007 with that same text that it does today

Where did you find this map on the wayback machine?

Me and my friend scoured trough the old wurm website and wiki but did not find any maps we haven't seen before.

There you go that was the last time the wayback machine saw mojang's website having that listing

Here is another interesting link https://web.archive.org/web/20140913022821/https://mojang.com/notch/oldwurm/

And the text on it related to the map itself

"
You can see the map for the small test island here. The starting position is on the peak in the center of the map.
For reference, the size of that island is about 0.4% of the total world size of the finished game.
"

Which puts it way way before anything almost any of us have ever had the fun of playing with just look at how ancient that site is like "
If the above link doesn't work, make sure you have Java 2, Standard Edition 1.4.2 installed." this was around between February 2002 and October 2008 but was already replaced with 5.0 in September 2004

Hmm yes we haven't really looked at mojang.com

That being said... the earliest page www.wurmonline.com returns is October 6 2003, while www.mojang.com only goes back to December 23 2003.

There was a dead link on the wiki pointing to it so I had a reference point for the way back machine. I have since then relinked to the raw image hosted on imgur. Though I wanted to create a historical:alpha-beta-map within the wiki but I don't have the perms for creating historical pages (maybe someone here does?). That's also why I was asking for the name of the map... for the wiki. Still, I was able to recover the map as well as an old Gold 1 map too.
