How to increase (not the popularity but) usefullness of fishing?

An easy way: let fish meals give more affinity bonus. Like 25% instead of the regular 10%.

BUT WHY?

Fishing's pointless anyway... if you're 50-90 or 100.. who cares?

This wont help fishing be more tempting to do.. for other than stp on niarja.

 

You're begging for a affinity meal buff to fishing not to make it more popular with this...

Try suggesting something fun... to happen during the fishing process or to make things easier... like the million ideas we've had so far.. but all got ignored.

metal reels - js skill.. I can still mention a few people looking for a jsmith in trade that cant find one for days..

blacksmithing hooks for fishing - creation capped at skill/20.. great... what are we to do with ql20 useless hooks.. improve them to ql90 for 20 minutes and than have a RNG snap and lose that? "SMART", why can't these be like skull hooks.............................

Can we get craftable floats with imp/repair option.. able to glowrune them... maybe lower the actual glow to to not be like a huge lamp in the water.... you'll have something to play with than.

Alternative less tedious ways to collect or a simpler way to store supplies for fishing... all the stuff in tackleboxes decay like crazy... what's the point of that box than.. you either need to keep it on you/alt/lmc(these TAKE HUGE AMOUNT OF SPACE btw)

 

The whole skill is a massive chore to do, place to fish, time, change floats based on time..  just like JS.. it's kind of fun when you have to look for somebody with CT and RM skill.. to get decent braided lines... or that most of the actions going that way.. just lower and lower that ql99 string you initially had.. to often an amazing ql50 or.. much lower in the common case.

 

Everything in fishing takes a ton of time, skill and reward in return is pathetic, benefit is there only if you have no gear or fighting skill to kill several mobs to get the same amount of meat... a catfish alone can feed you for a while..

it needs to ahve more skills added to making the parts for it there's not enough skills involved, like maybe papyrusmaking for a journal to keep logs of what fish are in the area, fine carp to make a nice fishing chair that gives a boost to fishing, firemaking to make a special fish cooking fire, if you dont have 90 in every single skill in the game you shouldn't be allowed to fish

Well, 25% skill gain bonus would make people do fishing. IMHO it's already less grindy than other skills, it rather should be more useful. It wouldn't be pointless this way.

Actually it's grindy afk and boring af.. both ways to do it.. make several fishing nets or buy/ borrow/use gifted etc.. (do not steal)

BUT.. you can spam several on toolbelt.. and just go do what elentari recently mentioned about some other actions.. queue several and go do anything in your home as you do not get to play or interact with anything you dumb stare at the screen - that's fishing.

 

There's more.. if fishing pole is not grindy for you.. coc/botd cast several fishing nets..and spam all on 1 tile... you'll still get massive gains in no time.. oh well.. it's capped at 1 minute per action.. plenty of time to watch tv or do your homework/chores while you cant do anything else - "win:win", skill is easy to get.. if you wanted it.. the lack of woa or ql improvement or any body stat involved to speed up the 1minute is beyond reasoning.. but that's what suggestion forum is.. we could ask for reasonable improvement to the wogic behind that decision.

To be further fair to it all.. there was a word on stream idk if official or emoo's that maybe we are or should get an improvement to fishing.. pretty much 1 of latest streams of emoos shoed a bit of lol moments while fishing.. plenty to correct or make more enjoyable.. I just fail to see how 25% skillgain boost is going to do more than stp bump on your niarja profile - the skill and everything around it is useless and overkilling when it comes to preparing to do any of it, and you want to buff the gains to revive it? why... if you had 99 nobody could care less, whoever got it before the new system was blessed with a few more points but that's literally it..

 

start suggesting stuff like fishing out scale armor bits or whole ripped boots that can be torn to get fraction of the scale they weight... make fishing great again.

If I remember right when new fishing was introduced there were some kind of trophies or wall mounts to display your catches but there was something wrong with them and they were quickly patched out.

 

That was probably the intended point or end-goal for fishing.

I like the idea of fishing up "junk" items like said above, could come up with some fun interesting things, could just use a system like the fragment system for it.

 

But the Trophy idea is fantastic and would love that, that you could make yourself for your house.

 

As a thought maybe a fishing Comp that runs one day a week, maybe a Sunday?  when the comp is active you have a chance to catch " competition fish " the biggest one caught in the time frame wins, have to sac your fish to get on the leader board.  Top 10 get fishing points that rewards you cool fishing gear, like a fishing seat or other items that a fun. Like how rift points gives you access to stuff.

 

Gives a reason to take part each week in some fishing, and something to prep for, get bait ready etc.
