Posted March 26, 2020 1. Cows know time, and will come for milking once they know the routine even if they aren't called. 2. When I was a kid, my Dad would whistle the cows up. They didn't all respond to the whistle but the ones who didn't would follow the ones who did. One cow would actually round up the others, and walk around them to the far side them come straight back through them. 3. Yeah, cows can swim, but some of them do sometimes seem to forget that.
Posted March 26, 2020 On the farm where I grew up, in what was then called Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe), the dairy cows (Frieslands) would go in order to their milking pens inside the dairy with hardly any prompting from their specific dairy worker. And yes, cows can swim, but they also can easily get stuck in muddy swampy areas, which was when my father would dose them with a bottle of brandy laced milk to give them some juice to help them when roped to a tractor to pull them out. Posted March 26, 2020 The neighbors cows would walk into their own stalls each day to be milked.
