Want to find: more in-game marketplaces!

Recommended Posts

We dropped a Coastal Deed at Xanadu ( Crew Martynas, Richtje and and me MrCoolMan )  at M7 for fast service to community if People want to come and see what we have there, we update the merchants daily but merchant page is abit slower.

We work on orders and to fill merchants.   At the moment we got 12 Merchants there and we fill some more up for more and faster find between areas what is being sold.

We Fill Most areas in imping and making + all things we adding to merchants we almost stopped selling in trade chat to have this as main focus to work with and the merchant page.

Spoiler

Deed name its Archdale

now added a merchant with cheap skillers 80+ casts, and the two with rare/supreme items, some  great items including a supreme iron butchering knife fully imbued

Bumping this marvellous old thread.

I did an inventory of the 3 largest markest on SFI. This is the number of active merchants in the end days of July 2021:

65 merchants - Glasshollow Market., Xanadu.

43 merchants - Southport Market, Deliverance.

21 merchants - Freedom Market. Independence.

I wonder if there is another market in 2021 with 10+ merchants?

Edit: first time in GHM I actually overlooked the 14 merchants that are placed in the upper level.

There's at least 3 with 10+ merchants - mine (Brambleheim) and Kasumi's (Greenwood Market), both on Release, are bricks-and-mortar markets with decorated shops, and Crafter's Legion Market on Xanadu has a dozen merchants run by a small team. NEXA and Club had 10+ prior to RMT ending but I think both are a bit smaller these days.

I tend to find (mostly but not always) that the medium markets (6-15 stalls) are usually run by one to four players focusing on curated content and consistent pricing structures - e.g. an armour merchant, a weapons merchant, a tool merchant, a rares merchant etc, while the large markets (16+) have almost always been community markets with lots of players having one or two merchants there (so more chaotic inventories and prices ranging from super cheap to super pricey but more scope for finding something surprising/cool/old/forgotten), and the small markets (1-5) stalls are usually single-player endeavors that either have specialised inventories, or sell all sorts and a new merchant gets added to the lineup every time one runs out of space. So different sized markets are good for different purposes, but bigger isn't necessarily better.

Some of the small markets have just two or three merchants but a full inventory of tasty rares, for example, while some of the big community markets have (historically at least) had, say, only half a dozen rare items for sale across two dozen merchants and at prices which haven't been changed in a year or more (for better or worse). But if you're bargain hunting and/or have mid-range equipment you're looking to upgrade piece by piece, big rummage markets can be brilliant for that. Curated markets tend to be more of an experience which you'll either love to bits or not give a crap about - mine and Kasumi's have little shop lined streets with merchants behind counters and 'stocked' shelves lining the walls. Neither of us are much use if you're wanting to rummage for surprise goodies but if you're on the hunt for something beyond enchanted equipment, for example, knowing there are PMK merchants, or furniture merchants or bloods merchants and so on at those markets is super valuable knowledge and we tend to get a handful of regular customers on top of the passing trade.

TLDR - I'm here for all markets, big and small, so long as they're user-friendly, accessible and have something worth travelling to experience/buy. :D

Back from a 6 month-ish hiatus and I've updated the main thread with a couple more markets I've visited recently, and with extra info supplied in the comments. I've also added a bit more detail about the different kinds of markets they all are for folk who find that information helpful.

I'll try and do a fresh circuit around the markets over the next month or so to see how they're all faring and will update/tweak as I find stuff. If any have closed/popped up/expanded/reduced in my absence though (whether yours or ones you've visited) let me know where they are and what they're called and I'll pay 'em a visit when I'm on my rounds. :D

Thanks, I've updated the listing on this and a few others, and I've just gone digging and added hyperlinks to all the ones I can find. Because the URLs change when titles get updated this might prove too unwieldy to keep up to date, but I'll give it a go for a while! :D

Would really love to see this post pinned somewhere - Crimsonearth has done a lot of work tracking and maintaining this list and I imagine it's useful to several players.

For a long time, I didn't understand why anyone would ever sail to a physical marketplace and browse through umpteen stalls of various items at different prices when a forum post or trade message plus mailbox was so much faster.

And then I realized some people really enjoy an an excuse to travel to a new server, like to take a detour after a slaying, or just really enjoy the flea market experience.  And while it's generally not my cup of tea but I've found myself warming to the idea!  Even if I rarely buy things from a market, I've started keeping a little coin on my person and sometimes just like to window shop when I'm in the area.  Occasionally I'll find a nice surprise to pick up and take home with me.  It reminds me of the feeling of browsing at a used record store or thrift shop - you never know what you might find.

I'm aware that at least one of these markets has fallen while I was off on my annual warm-weather Wurm break - I'll endeavour to sail around and check on the whole list over the coming weeks and update this list with any changes I find - if any new markets have sprung up since Easter, though - pop a message on this thread with names/coords if you can as I'll've missed any announcements about them in chat over that time. :)

Being able to mail items COD..  Reduces or eliminates market emergence.  Trade chat is your market.  I don't like this, but asking for removal of mailing items would cast you into the Leper's hole I'm sure.  Were there more markets before mailing?  or was mailing always a thing?

EDIT:  I've thought on this more - I don't think Mailing Items is a major culprit for low-market emergence, its lack of need to purchase goods, i.e. demand is too low - back to another one of my arguments regarding "not-enough" item sinks (consumption) being the main culprit for the low velocity of monetary exchange.

...and also perhaps, because people are required to pay for a deed to host their merchants if they want no decay, which may play a role?   I love visiting markets though, it is one of the charming things this game offers since you never know what "treasure" you can find!

Hi, I like to add my new market to the list please :)

It's called "Tarsis Harbour Market" located on Xan @R13. It's a market deed with self serve animal pens, and some curated themed shops/stalls, it's only run by me so not the biggest market, but I have a range of rares, farm bulk goods, blood, dyes & novelty gift items, so far I have 6 curated merchants and then merchants dotted around the stable blocks with pen keys. I've tried to make it a beautiful place to visit as well as functional because I also enjoy running around sight seeing and window shopping / splurging at market deeds! I hope that mine will become one for other people too :)

I have a thread up in the merchant ad's section of the forum here:

Solinswith / Luniraen :)

Thanks Kordeth! I had made myself a note of that somewhere when I last visited but evidently not gotten around to editing the thread accordingly, so thanks for the prompt!

Thanks for the updates lovely folks. Sorry I've been a bit behind updating the thread but do keep them coming. I've sailed around a few new markets recently and so have added several more to the list and updated the info on others - Indy has gained a few new markets recently so check 'em out if you're nearby or have some coin burning a hole in your pocket. :)
