How would a new combat system look like? [no devs are allowded to read this untill we say we are ready!:)]

I am thinking something along the lines of a fusion between Mount and Blade combat system with the Skyrim  one?

 

Would something like that even be possible in Java?

 

If so can they make something similar without having to pay royalties to those 2? I am guessing yes but is good to make sure.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

You guys reckon wurmians would be open to using the mouse movement and buttons for combat?

 

I would probably like the melee combat to be inspired from Mount and Blade and the range combat to be inspired from Skyrim.

 

Should priest be able to spam cast spells for combat? That would mean they should use something other than favor to cast combat spells.

 

But then the melee will be at a disatvantage as they would have to spend stamina to get in melee of the priest.

 

But would making priests use stamina to cast combat spells balance that out?

 

Because then melee costs stamina, archery cost stamina, combat spells cost stamina.

 

The point of this is to try to find a combat system that would work for wurm be technically possible and as cheap as possible:0

 

Once we find one we can start pestering teh devs to look into it and possibly adding it to the game. Until then they are not allowed to read this :)

Twitch combat is simply not possible under a centralised mmo. Centralised servers create a ton of ping and latency issues. 

 

This isn't something that will be happening, the combat streamlining will not be to introduce this. 

 

What we are aiming to do is give more visual feedback about what you can fight and improve the general flow, it will still be based on server tick combat however

So we have to think of something more in the lines of: select target then perform something on it?

What if instead of selecting where you are hitting, you would select where you are hitting from. Then you would swing your weapon and end up on the opposite side. Then you could select either of the positions from the sides or keep the position you are in to swing back to where you started from. for example, start from left, swing to right, select right top, swing to left bottom, select bottom and swing to top....

Problem is that would make fighting a bit too micro intensive if you would have to select for every swing. If not then it would just be a reversal of the current system which is not helping imho.

 

Would be fun in a pvp duel but fs grind on pve mobs could become extra tedious. 

 

The ideea with mouse swings means you dont require keybinds or clicking on a doll like now but since taht is not technically possible according to Retro (lag issues.. imagine an aussie trying to swing lul)  then is not an option.

 

Alternatively we could just ask Keenan to fix world lag because at the end of the day is that what we are not paying him for in the first place?:)

with key binds not that tedious. Or you could just let swing from side to side with mobs. You could have things like increased parry chance for the hits coming from the side your weapon is currently, or negative effect from swinging form left side with shield equipped. could also make it possible to move two steps from current position (from bottom left to top left or bottom right) and make it take more time to do.
